Rapper Nicki Minaj’s fans were left disappointed after she was mistakenly announced the winner on the official X account and website of Grammys. First, the website and Twitter handle announced that it’s Nicki Minaj & Ice Spice won the Best Rap Song category for Barbie World. But for whatever reasons might be, they quickly deleted the post. Later, it was clarified that Killer Mike’s Scientists & Engineers actually took the prize.
The competitive category also featured nominations for Just Wanna Rock (Lil Uzi Vert), Attention (Doja Cat), and Rich Flex (Drake & 21 Savage).
Nicki Minaj has raised her frustration against the Award earlier as well. In 2022, when the show decided to remove her successful song, Super Freaky Girl, from the rap category to the pop one, she said:
“They stay moving the goalposts when it comes to me. Why is the goalpost only ever moved when it’s Nicki?”
“It was done to decrease my chances of winning awards for ‘Super Freaky Girl.’ It was done to remove me from the category that they don’t want COMPETITION in!!!!!!! They are all scared to death of the success of that song & thought it would be super EASY for them (like it’s been for the last few years) but ‘SFG’ is such a global smash, certain members are AFRAID to keep it in the competition,” Minaj posted on social media at the time. In 2020, also, she called out the Grammys for not giving her the Best New Artist award even after she had seven songs charting on Billboard at the time.
