The Akatsuki is one of the most brutal factions in anime history. They were formed with the idea of capturing all the tailed beasts and summoning the Ten-Tails. Being the Nine-Tails fox’s jinchuriki, Naruto Uzumaki also had to stay alert. The Akatsuki recruited shinobi with unique abilities and divided them into groups of two, which helped them catch their prey.

One of the members of the evil faction was Hidan. Hidan was partnered up with the oldest member, Kakuzu. Hidan had one of the most deadly abilities and used it to kill Asuma Sarutobi. But one of the Naruto fan theories suggests that the overpowered ability proved to be the reason for his demise. Shikamaru Nara had an advantage after Hidan used his Jashin ability against him in Naruto Shippuden.

Hidan gave the Naruto fans one of the biggest heartbreaks in the entire series. He killed Team 10’s sensei, Asuma Sarutobi. After that, Shikamaru Nara vowed to avenge his sensei. He did end Hidan’s tyranny in a way that could only be possible by a member of the Nara clan. Even though Shikamaru outdid himself while avenging his sensei, fans believe that there might be a crucial factor present in Hidan’s downfall.

Hidan was a Jashinist. He gained immortality after sacrificing tons of people in the name of Lord Jashin. But it did come at a cost. It restricted him from using any other jutsu. The Death Controlling Possessed Blood is the only jutsu he can perform under the oath. Being a Jashinist, he got the gift of immortality but lost the ability to perform other jutsu. In the Naruto databook, Hidan is given 5/5 in ninjutsu.

But it is completely wasted since he cannot use it. He can only do taijutsu since he needs the blood of his target and can perform basic actions like running on water. However, both ninjutsu and genjutsu are out of bounds. It proved to be an advantage for Shikamaru since his opponent only had one ability. He needed to be careful, but it would be an easy win for him, considering he is a master of Shadow Possession Jutsu.

Hidan’s Overconfidence Led To His Downfall In Naruto

Gaining an overpowered ability is always an advantage, but in Hidan’s case, it was a disadvantage. Even after being one of the best ninjutsu users, he could never use anything other than the Death Controlling Possessed Blood. His only motive during a fight is to acquire his opponent’s blood through his battle axe. This allows him to activate the deadly technique.

But Shikamaru has 200 IQ, and he planned his moves and left Hidan to die in the depths of the Nara Clan Forest. The only way Hidan can die is through malnutrition, and Shikamaru did just that. Even though he was defeated, Hidan proved to be one of Shikamaru’s strongest foes. His taijutsu is exceptionally strong as well.

Unfortunately, he never lived up to his full potential since he never used ninjutsu or genjutsu. But it is still only a theory, and only Masashi Kishimoto knows and can confirm whether the fan theory is correct. Until then, fans will have to take it with a pinch of salt.
