In her thirty-year career, actress Natalie Portman has played almost every role imaginable. The actress has starred in superhero films, Westerns, romantic comedies, space operas, and period dramas. She has also fared quite well in the dramatic category, with her Oscar-winning performance in Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan still being spoken about.

However, despite her wide range of films, Natalie Portman revealed that her dream role was to make a film like Robin Williams’ Mrs. Doubtfire. The actress answered the question posed by Drew Barrymore on The Drew Barrymore Show

“I would love to do like a kids’ film. Like Mrs. Doubtfire, I love that film. Yes, [I am Mrs. Doubtfire in the movie].”

The Thor actress’ dream role revelation was met with excitement and enthusiasm from both Barrymore and the audience present at the talk show. The Robin Williams-starrer Mrs Doubtfire follows a recently divorced father hoping to meet his children and repair the relationship with his wife by posing as a nanny.

The film was directed by Chris Columbus and was a huge success at the box office. It earned $441 million globally against a $25 million budget and even won Robin Williams a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy. It is a classic comedy that has become an irreplaceable part of pop culture.

Recently, Natalie Portman was seen in a starring role along with Julianne Moore in Todd Haynes’ drama film May December. Portman plays the role of Elizabeth Berry, an actress who comes to the home of Julianne Moore’s Gracie to play her character in an independent film. Gracie was caught and arrested for having intercourse with her thirteen-year-old son’s classmate, Joe when she was 36.

During her prison sentence, she has the child of Georgie and starts a family with him once she is out. The film sees Portman’s Elizabeth going down a dark path trying to get more involved in the family as she tries to get into the character more. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and was acclaimed for its performances.

Portman mentioned in The Drew Barrymore Show that she was surprised by how smooth filming for the movie went and that she was excited to work with both Moore and Todd Haynes. She said,

“I think we had twenty-three days to film everything….[which is] very fast and usually unpleasant. And it was so fun. Todd was amazing and Julianne was amazing. Charles Melton won a Gotham Award last night, he is just so good.”

The film had a limited release in the USA in November and is currently streaming on Netflix. Haynes was nominated for the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival and the film has earned many nominations at the Independent Spirit Awards.
