Naughty Dog’s last major game was the 2020 title The Last of Us Part 2 for PlayStation 4 last year. They have since released an Uncharted collection of games for PlayStation 5 and PC, and their blockbuster title The Last of Us Part 1 for PlayStation 5 last year and the PC port of the same earlier this year.

While the next title in The Last of Us franchise is said to be under development, a new leak has now revealed an action-adventure game also being under development since 2021. The game only has a code name for now with some interesting details being leaked along with it which sounds too good and quite interesting.

A Reddit post has revealed details of a title in the works by Naughty Dog, code-named Paradox. The new IP is said to have been under development since 2021, with no multiplayer option. The interesting part about this leak is that the game’s storyline sounds quite familiar to two of Naughty Dog’s two blockbuster titles.

As per the post, the story revolves around two thieving brothers who make it their mission to escort a special girl. The girl is said to have the power to prevent the rebirth of the “Royal Abyssals, a civilization that dwells at the bottom of the black sea“.

The mention of two thieving brothers immediately got a mention by several fans who commented on the similarities between the untitled game and the Uncharted franchise, while the fact that they escort a girl safely reminded many of The Last of Us franchise.

Both of these franchises are by Naughty Dog and while the untitled game also has several other unique details mentioned in the post, fans couldn’t help but mention how Naughty Dog’s untitled project could have several elements borrowed from the studio’s older titles.

Dieselpunk Fantasy Game With a Mix of Monsters and Robots

No official announcement has been made by Naughty Dog about their next project.
No official announcement has been made by Naughty Dog about their next project.

The genre of the untitled title is said to be Dieselpunk Fantasy that’s set underwater, after the world gets submerged by a mysterious black sea, with few of the cities protected by an energy source radiating from “shiny trees“. This black sea is said to host numerous monsters called Abyssals, which are a mix between “robots and Lovecraftian creatures“.

The game is said to be set in an open world where gamers will be able to explore several islands, each with unique politics and culture. The game is also said to feature dungeons in the form of submerged cities that have become corrupted.

Finally, there are said to be Paradoxes that work as the main weapons in the game. The Paradoxes are said to be “rare artifacts with powers that violate the laws of reality“. In a very similar fashion to the weapons from Ratchet and Clank, the protagonist is said to have the superpower to use several weapons in the game.

While Insomniac Games has been bringing out successful titles, Naughty Dog’s lack of a new IP for a while left many gamers worried about the studio. The stand-alone multiplayer Zombie shooter based on Factions from The Last of Us Part 1, kept getting delayed until an insider recently revealed that there’s no more hope of the title being developed. Sony might continue to

There are no other multi-player titles rumored to be coming from Naughty Dog, and the upcoming game also has no mention of a multi-player mode coming with the game. The next few years might witness a plethora of single-player sequels from the major PlayStation partner studios, and Naughty Dog wouldn’t want to be left behind either.

A purely single-player experience might just be what Naughty Dog needs right now to get another successful franchise started, if it works out well. Fans will know nonetheless in the next few months if the rumors and leaks materialize into an official announcement from the studio.
