The Last of Us 2 bit has since been removed from his profile, but it still says “two iconic titles.”

After the success of the HBO series, it seems like The Last of Us 2 Remastered will be coming just in time before Season 2. An opportunity for old fans to dive back while also introducing new players to The Last of Us 2. The community has been eagerly awaiting what Naughty Dog does next in gaming.

The Last of Us multiplayer game is delayed until further notice, but a remaster of its sequel could hold fans off a little bit longer. The Last of Us 2 was released in the summer of 2020 with a mixed reception. While some loved what Naughty Dog did with the sequel, others felt it was under-delivered.

The Last of Us 2 still holds a 93 Metascore with a mixed/average user score. Despite the sequel’s controversy, the nine-episode HBO series drew fans back into the franchise and became a massive success. In addition, the series introduced a whole new audience to The Last of Us. Hence, remastering The Last of Us 2 makes sense right now. Also, composer Gustavo Santaolalla hinted at a remaster earlier this year.

Some fans are wondering why Naughty Dog is remastering the controversial sequel. A similar discourse happened when The Last of Us Part I was announced, as the original game was not even 10 years old yet.

In addition, The Last of Us Remastered from 2014 on the PlayStation 4 plays fine on the PlayStation 5. Taking advantage of the new technology used in The Last of Us 2, Naughty Dog decided to use it to remake The Last of Us.

The Last of Us 2 Remastered is likely going to fully utilize the PlayStation 5’s power. Players can play the game on their PlayStation 5 to get enhanced features such as 1440p resolution, faster loading times, and 60 frames per second. However, The Last of Us 2 was still built with the PlayStation 4 in mind.

Furthermore, this can be Naughty Dog’s opportunity to also port the game to PC. The Last of Us Part I made its way onto the PlayStation 5 first before getting a PC version six months later. If history repeats itself, this will likely happen again with The Last of Us 2. Though players likely want the port to work at launch, Naughty Dog will hopefully take its time with this new remaster.

Jumping off the HBO series’ success, the remaster is looking to be on the horizon. A facelift for the PS4 game is making its way to fully utilize the PlayStation 5’s power. When this remaster will happen is not official yet, but we’ll learn in due time.
