The Last of Us Part 1 saw immense success upon its release and it was expected to be the same with The Last of Us Part 2. Although the game was received well by the majority of the gaming community, there were players who criticized the game since its launch. The game also received eleven nominations at The Game Awards 2020 and won 7 awards including Game of the Year, but that did not help either.

There are rumors that players could get a PlayStation 5 version of the game, with music composer Gustavo Santaolalla accidentally hinting the same. So players could get their hands on a remastered version in the future but nothing is certain. A player who first hated the game has now taken up to Reddit and urged fellow gamers that they need to give a ‘second chance’ to The Last of Us 2.

A Reddit user, u/yousefameed0 who claims he first hated The Last of Us 2 posted a meme in context to the game on The Last of Us subreddit saying that he’s playing the game and his thoughts have changed. In the Reddit post, he said,

“Currently giving part 2 a second chance, gotta say, my perspective changed.”

The player further added that Ellie and Abby are essentially the same person. The only reason why players hated Abby was that the story in The Last of Us was given from Joel’s and Ellie’s perspectives, but if it were to be changed, Abby would be the protagonist and Joel would be the antagonist. He concluded that it’s just his thoughts and he is now enjoying The Last of Us 2 more.

Others rallied this thought, with a user saying,

“People wanted a safe sequel but ND said f**k that. I love both games.”

Another user added that people just hated the game for no reason and Part 2 is much better than the last game. It is important to note that the game is not just criticized for a single issue that the user pointed out, but there were other controversies that made the players resent the game.

Why was The Last of Us 2 Hated?

The Protagonist swap was one of the main reasons behind The Last of Us 2 being hated. And while it was a bold move by Naughty Dog, it received extreme criticism. Players called it ‘a waste of time’ and some even gave the game straight up zero out of 10 reviews. This was due to several reasons, including unnecessary violence in the game.

Another reason why the game received so much hate was the LGBTQ storyline and characters. There was a group of people who said the game focused too much on Ellie and Dina’s relationship. Other reasons were that people did not like the game killing Joel as he was the main character. Few others felt that Abby wasn’t a great character to be handed the baton of the protagonist. Players stated that the game does not allow them to connect with Abby as much as they did with Ellie’s character.
