Henry Cavill was the center of two heart-breaking pieces of news in 2022. His removal from the DC Universe after showing such excitement to return as Superman came as a huge shock to fans of the actor. On top of that, Henry Cavill had already called it quits with The Witcher, leaving behind his role as Geralt of Rivia.

Till today, no one really knows why the actor quit the show. Sure there were a lot of speculations and theories, but neither did the team of The Witcher nor did Henry Cavill confirm any of them. We still don’t know what made him leave the show. It looks like not only the fans but the cast of the series, too, were kept in the dark. Actor Lars Mikkelsen, who is also a part of the series, revealed that he knew nothing about Henry Cavill’s departure.

Everyone knows how much Henry Cavill loves everything geeky. It’s one of the reasons why his fans love him so much; he’s just like them! So when it was announced that season three will be his last run as Geralt of Rivia, there was some commotion, to say the least. Fans blamed him for choosing Superman over The Witcher since the rumors of him coming back to the DCU came during the same time.

However, the real reason behind the exit remains unknown. Now, actor Lars Mikkelsen, who played Stregobor in the two seasons of the series has revealed that he didn’t know that Cavill will be leaving the show. Talking to Express.co.uk, Mikkelsen stated that they had finished shooting in August and he still wasn’t aware of the actor’s plans and only came to know after it was released in the press, which was in October.

“I was surprised. Yeah. We finished up in August, I think. And I didn’t know. I didn’t know at all. I only had one or two scenes with him, so I didn’t really get to speak with him. But what it’s about, I don’t know, I really don’t know.”

It looks like not only were the fans unaware of Cavill’s motives, but the cast too wasn’t let in on the secret. However, this doesn’t mean that Mikkelsen isn’t excited to work with Liam Hemsworth, who is replacing Cavill. He told the outlet that while he would love to act alongside the new Geralt, he is unsure if he himself is returning as Stregobor in the following seasons.

We Hope Liam Hemsworth is Up for the Challenge

Cavill passed the torch to Hemsworth with “reverence” as he bid goodbye to the character. While the Enola Holmes actor was committed to playing the role for seven seasons of the show, his untimely exit seemed odd. Many believed that Cavill left The Witcher because it was straying away from the source material a bit too much.

Cavill had nothing but a warm welcome for Hemsworth who in turn reciprocated Cavill’s good wishes stating that he had big boots to fill.

Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have some big boots to fill but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world.”

The Hunger Games actor isn’t wrong. Cavill has created a different fan base for his portrayal of the White Wolf. After the actor had set the bar so, so high, it is not going to be a piece of cake for Hemsworth to touch the bar. We can only hope that his taking over the role in season four would be a good thing for the show. Given the fact that fans wholeheartedly love Cavill’s work as the character, Hemsworth needs to ready himself to face some tough criticism.

Season three will be Cavill’s last run as Geralt of Rivia and is expected to release this year, although there isn’t a date marked yet.
