Well, some of Overwatch 2 fans are apparently a little upset with Blizzard. This is because Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers are given some popular skins for a limited time. Although this seemed like good news for most players at first, it caused many people who had previously purchased these skins to direct their criticism towards the dev.
Ultimate is the highest-priced tier of Xbox Game Pass, offering subscribers several benefits, including in-game cosmetics in various games like Overwatch 2. The ‘Season 10 Perks Bundle,’ offered for a limited time through this tier’s perks, caused Blizzard to come under fire.
Overwatch 2 Fans Are Upset About Paid Cosmetics Becoming Free
The ‘Season 10 Perks Bundle,’ available for free to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers, can be redeemed until June 19. This bundle includes three skins, which are as follows:
- Medusa Widowmaker Legendary Skin
- Executioner Junker Queen Legendary Skin
- Visual Kei Kiriko Epic Skin
After the reveal of the perks for Ultimate, disgruntled folks expressed their reactions on social media accounts and directed their grievances to Blizzard, stating that they would no longer buy any shop skins. This is because such cosmetics are sold for actual money and then become free after a while.
While fans’ critical social media posts against Blizzard received thousands of likes in a short time, there has been no response from the developer for now. However, it appears that there might be a notable decline in Overwatch 2‘s store sales for the foreseeable future.
Fans might have valid reasons to feel upset about in-game items they previously purchased becoming free through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. However, it’s essential to remember that Game Pass is a paid subscription service. In essence, subscribers who are members of this service can enjoy free perks like the ‘Season 10 Perks Bundle’ by consistently paying a monthly subscription fee.

For instance, Game Pass Ultimate has a monthly subscription fee of $16.99, whereas the standard one is sold for $9.99 per month.
The Latest Status of the Game
Despite all these criticisms, fans continue to show interest in Overwatch 2. According to SteamDB, it currently has over 38k concurrent players on Steam, and considering its 24-hour peak is 50k, it’s showing steady progress.
That said, Overwatch 2 achieved its all-time peak of 75k players 9 months ago, placing it at the 200th spot on the list of most played Steam games. Besides, the title’s bumpy ride continues on Metacritic. The game was labeled as ‘Generally Favorable‘ with a Metascore of 79 and ‘Overwhelming Dislike’ with a User Score of 1.5.
