Lisa Marie Presley passed away recently in January of 2023, following a cardiac arrest. Soon after her death, many netizens showed interest in her association with the cult-like religion. In an interview with Tony Ortega, the late star claimed that she hated Tom Cruise and everything related to Scientology.

Scientology has some of the biggest names from the industry associated with it, namely Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Isaac Hayes, and many others. Lisa Marie was also a part of the controversial sect till 2014. Marie Presley got involved with Scientology when Priscilla Presley, her mother joined it. Although she never spoke too much about the group, she neither stopped herself from criticizing the group and its leader David Miscavige for using her family’s fortune to get others in it.

“At 25, after I got the inheritance, they started grooming me to be this person who would go out and get everyone else in.”

She also added to her statement that she hates the Top Gun: Maverick actor very much and can’t even sit under the same roof with him.

Tom Cruise became a part of Scientology soon after his marriage to Mimi Rogers in 1986. He has been one of the most active members of the group since then. But on the other hand, Lisa Marie’s relationship with the Church only worsened over years.

The only child of Elvis and Priscilla Presley was brought to the religion by her mother soon after the King of Rock and Roll passed away. Following that, she was involved with the religion for a long time and was even reported to praise the church for saving her life.

But things seemed the contrary when she left Scientology. Presley’s daughter stated that Scientology used her family name and fame for their own benefit.

“I was slowly starting to self-destruct. They were taking my soul, my money, my everything.”

Lisa Marie also alleged that the Church wanted her to recruit her ex-husband Michael Jackson, but changed their mind soon after he got involved in some controversies. Her daughter and actress Riley Keough also reportedly supported her in the fight against the group.
