Jeff Rowe’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem has just been released in theatres by Paramount Pictures and it is already making “mayhem” in the entertainment industry. Taking our favorite childhood franchise to the next level, Mutant Mayhem boasts an incredible cast including, Jackie Chan, John Cena, Ice Cube, and so on.
Since Mutant Mayhem is a reboot of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, there was some speculation about whether the animated film will be a hit or a miss. And if its reviews, Rotten Tomatoes score, and the CinemaScore is any indication, the film is definitely a big hit. In fact, it seems like another huge animated series, Spider-Verse, might have to watch its back with this one!

An ‘A’ For Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem
While Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is expected to gross around $30-40 million in the first five days of its release, the reviews make it seem that it won’t be difficult to reach those figures. As per CinemaScore’s expertise, the organization awarded the film with an ‘A’ rating. This also marks the highest rating given by CinemaScore to a TMNT film.

On the other hand, another leading website, Rotten Tomatoes, has given the film a score of a whopping 94%. The consensus praises Mutant Mayhem’s “unique visual style” as well as the gripping storyline. It adds, “TMNT: Mutant Mayhem is an animated treat for the whole family.”
It looks like Paramount Pictures might have found their answer to Sony’s Spider-Verse franchise. The TMNT reboot follows a similar structure to that of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse with its animation style and fluid movements.

Mutant Mayhem Writer Scared of Marvel and DC?
Seth Rogen contributed in writing the story for Mutant Mayhem and he even voiced the character of Bebop in the film. In an interview with Polygon, Rogen opened up about his love for comic books, which are not DC and Marvel. Now, these two superhero worlds have taken over the comic book industry, and rightly so.
When Polygon asked Seth, “What kind of comic is the comic that grips you so hard that you go, ‘Yeah, I think I want to make this my job for a year?’”, Rogen stated, “Well, first of all, it’s everything that is not Marvel and DC.”
Rogen was then asked about what it is exactly that turns him off about Marvel and DC, Rogen candidly replied,
“Honestly, probably fear [laughs]. We really have a pretty specific way we work; me and Evan [Goldberg] have been writers for 20 years at this point. It’s a fear of the process, honestly. And I say that knowing nothing about the process. There are a lot of Marvel things I love. It’s mostly fear of how we would plug into the system that they have in place, which seems like a very good system and a system that serves them very well.”
He does have a point. Both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DC Universe have been ruling over comic-inspired films and TV shows. We understand why it could get intimidating for someone. However, the team of Mutant Mayhem has proved that if you’re really good at something, you can even give the big bosses some serious competition.
