Seth Rogen and His Obsession with TMNT

Speaking to Empire, Seth Rogen claimed that his passion for the TMNT led him and co-writer Evan Goldberg to take up karate. Unfortunately for Rogen, his passion for TMNT and martial arts led to an injury.

Part of the reason I did karate was because of the Ninja Turtles,” says Rogen. “Me and Evan both did karate together. My dad got me nunchucks that I cracked my head open with because I was obsessed with the Ninja Turtles, and Michelangelo specifically.”

For his part, Goldberg brought up the time that Rogen offered to show him an “awesome move” with the Nunchucks… but it didn’t go so well.

Seth had just got these nunchucks. He was like, ‘Yo, check this out, I want to show you this awesome move,’ and just immediately shattered a huge chandelier from his parent’s house into a billion pieces. It took us, like, five hours to clean,” he said.

On a more serious note, Goldberg claimed that the TMNT series significantly influenced his and Rogen’s lives, adding that it’s difficult to gauge the impact but “it’s not a small amount.”

Speaking with Empire, Seth Rogen touched on what fans can expect out of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, which releases in August 2023.

The film itself is permeated with this teenage energy – where you don’t stay in the lines, and you’re pushing harder on the stuff that you like, and you’re impressionably scribbling in the background,” Rogen said. “We started to write to the animation style. It needed to capture that – we can never have boring scenes, because the movie itself just seems to be crackling with energy.”
