In a recent interview with W Magazine, Cage shared his deep admiration for the film and voiced his support for its star, Margot Robbie. “I’m a huge admirer of Margot Robbie,” he said. The Family Man star further stated that she is among his favorite actresses and extended his best wishes for the 2024 Oscars.
“She’s one of my favorite actors. I hope she gets it this year,” he said. The actor also didn’t hold back in expressing his affection for the movie as he shared, “I loved [Barbie].” Robbie, a two-time Oscar nominee, is anticipated to be a strong contender for Best Actress at the 96th Academy Awards. And Cage’s support surely adds an extra layer of encouragement for the talented actress.
Barbie and Oppenheimer Are Expected to be Oscars Frontrunners
Among many contenders, Barbie and Oppenheimer are expected to be the frontrunners at the 2024 Academy Awards. Christopher Nolan’s biographical thriller recently recorded the most victories at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards with five wins, including for Best Film and Best Director.
Greta Gerwig’s comedy film also made a significant impact, earning two Golden Globes for Best Original Song and under a new category of Cinematic and Box Office Achievement. Both movies are leading the nominations for the 30th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, with four nominations each.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has also revealed shortlists in 10 categories for the 2024 Oscars. Barbie emerged with the most mentions, notably in Original Score, Sound, and three nods for Original Song for What I Was Made For?, Dance the Night Away, and I’m Just Ken.
Meanwhile, Oppenheimer was shortlisted under three categories Makeup and Hairstyling, Original Score, and Sound. With the anticipation building toward the 2024 Oscars, these two cinematic powerhouses are poised for recognition and acclaim on Hollywood’s grandest night. Official nominees for the 96th Academy Awards will be revealed on January 23, 2024.
