Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD Launch Dates Have Been Revealed
Both of these games were announced during the September 2023 Direct showcase, and now the release dates have been revealed, and it’s not much further. Nintendo released a video on its official X/Twitter handle on the special day and announced that The Thousand-Year Door and Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD will be launching for Switch on May 23 and June 27, 2024, respectively.
These games are regarded as the best first-party titles from the publisher and have unique gameplay. The Thousand-Year Door was originally released on the GameCube in 2004 and was developed by Intelligent Systems. The game is one of the best RPGs to release on the platform.
Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, developed by Next Level Games, is the second entry in the series and was launched for the 3DS system in 2013. The game was originally called Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon. The game’s remaster version for Switch will bring HD visuals and various improvements for an immersive and unparalleled experience.
Fans have praised The Thousand-Year Door for its paper aesthetic, and Luigi’s Mansion 2 is popular for its spooky in-game world and supernatural opponents such as ghosts and demons. Players interested in getting the games can now pre-order them from the e-shop.
A New Super Mario Bros. Movie Is Also in the Works
Alongside the announcement of release dates for the upcoming games, the company also confirmed that a new animated film “based on the world of Super Mario Bros.” is in the works, and the animation will soon begin. The film wasn’t mentioned as a sequel to the Super Mario Bros. Movie but will again be produced by Illumination.
The film will be written by Matthew Fogel and directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic. The producers are Illumination founder Chris Meledandri and Shigeru Miyamoto, which is the same creative team that worked on the previous animated film. Moreover, no details about the story of the animated film have been revealed yet, but it could be along the lines of the last one.
Shigeru Miyamoto said that the film will expand the world, and it was added that the developers will be “obsessing over every detail to get it just right.” The film will be released on April 3, 2026, in the US and other global markets.
