Gwyneth Paltrow’s Virginia ‘Pepper’ Potts has been a staple character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since the first Iron Man movie came out in 2008. Appearing in several installments in a giant franchise like MCU can sometimes be overwhelming, and in many cases, the actors completely forget which project they starred in.

In 2019, Paltrow had a weird moment that went viral after the actress claimed she had no idea she was in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017). In total, the Oscar-winning star had been in seven Marvel films: three Iron Man flicks, three Avengers titles (except Age of Ultron), and Homecoming.

Gwyneth Paltrow Completely Forgot She Was In Spider-Man: Homecoming

Gwyneth Paltrow appeared on Jon Favreau’s Netflix series The Chef Show, and while they were busy preparing the food, the actress and the director had a bit of a chat. He told Paltrow that they were both in Spider-Man: Homecoming and the latter immediately said (via Entertainment Tonight):

We weren’t in Spider-Man. No, I was in Avengers.”

Seeing the quizzical look on Paltrow’s face, Favreau insisted that they were really together during the filming of the Tom Holland-led film. He went on to explain the scene where Paltrow briefly appeared:

Yes, we were. Homecoming. You were in Spider-Man. Remember Spider-Man in the end and Tom Holland’s there, and you’re gonna walk out to a press conference.”

Paltrow’s countenance lit up as she finally remembered that specific scene with Pepper Potts, Tony Stark, and Happy Hogan. She was supposed to tell them that a lot of people were waiting in a room for a big announcement, but because Peter Parker declined to join the Avengers for the time being, they had to think of another big news for the press.

Paltrow’s mixed-up fiasco is not hard to understand. In fact, it’s a normal thing for Marvel actors to sometimes be clueless about the scenes they work on. Marvel film productions thrive in secrecy, and it has always remained the weapon the directors use to prevent actors from revealing spoilers in interviews. Years of filming with the same actors and set-up can also add to the confusion.

Gwyneth Paltrow Never Watched Spider-Man: Homecoming

In one of her interviews with Jimmy Kimmel Live, Gwyneth Paltrow admitted she hasn’t seen Spider-Man: Homecoming. The actress also expressed her confusion toward Marvel films:

There’s so many of these wonderful Marvel interconnecting movies. And I thought it was an Avengers movie, but it was not.”

Fans cannot really blame Paltrow for the mix-up because aside from being an actress, she is also an entrepreneur, which probably takes up a lot of her time and attention as well. Her scene in Spider-Man: Homecoming was quite brief it probably took her less than a day to film that one scene.

Her co-star Robert Downey Jr. also appeared in the movie for only 15 minutes, but he was paid a bigger paycheck than the lead star himself.

According to Hindustan Times, the Iron Man actor worked for three days and got paid $1 million per minute of his on-screen time, taking home $15 million, all thanks to his powerful movie presence!
