Iman Vellani has made a reputation for herself as one of the most hardcore fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Marvel Comics. Being well-versed in everything from characters to the different universes within the Multiverse, she has impressed more than a few fans. Being as in love with the franchise as she is, it is no wonder that it was a dream come true when she was cast as Ms. Marvel.
Recently, the actress revealed that she was having a major fan moment when a Marvel videogame was released, even playing as her own character in public. Interestingly enough, no one seemed to recognize who Vellani was.
Iman Vellani Had A Fan Moment In A Best Buy
In 2020, Marvel released its highly-anticipated video game, Marvel’s Avengers. The game was following the hype and standard left by Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man, so there was a lot of attention around it. Fans could not help but get excited considering just how many iconic characters would be in it.
Kamala Khan, or Ms. Marvel, played quite an important role in it, so it almost seemed obligatory for Iman Vellani to comment on it. The actress spoke to ComicBook about this, revealing that when the game was released, she went to her nearest Best Buy and bought the game.
“Went to Best Buy [when it came out], got the game, and I was posing with it” Vellani mentioned.
She even posed with it in public, getting pictures taken, and looking at it as a great achievement for herself.
Iman Vellani Did Not Get Recognized
Iman Vellani then revealed that nobody recognized her at that moment, wondering who she was, posing with a game in the middle of a Best Buy. She even played as her character in the game there and people seemed to brush past her with no suspicion. Little did they know, she would become one of the most important parts of the fifth phase of the MCU.
“No one knew who I was or why this girl was posing in the middle of a Best Buy. But yeah, I played it. Then I got really bored of the moves, but I played myself. That was pretty cool.” She went on.
While many would say that she pulled off a ‘Clark Kent’, with no one recognizing her when she was out of costume, the truth was a little more complicated than that. Ms. Marvel was released on streaming services in 2022, however, Vellani was announced to be playing Kamala Khan in September 2020. Unfortunately, Marvel’s Avengers was released in August 2020.
Considering this was the first role of her acting career, it is not surprising that the actress was not recognized.
