The Straw Hat Pirates have been on an adventure in the world of One Piece for almost 30 years. The crew has enjoyed many happy moments but has also faced many sad situations together. And now after defeating two Emperors of the sea, the Straw Hat Pirates have become the youngest Yonko crew in One Piece history.
The crew currently comprises Monkey D. Luffy, Roronoa Zoro, Vinsmoke Sanji, Nami, Usopp, Robin, Franky, Chopper, Brook, and Jinbe. The latest addition to the crew was Jinbe and every member of the crew had a role assigned to them. They also work together to achieve their individual goals and to see their Captain become the King of the Pirates.
However, a One Piece theory claims that Eiichiro Oda, the creator of the One Piece world, might add three more members to the crew to make it complete. There have been a lot of indications and hints dropped by Oda that support this theory.
One Piece Theory Claims That The Straw Hat Pirates Will Have 13 Members
A theory that surfaced on Reddit r/OnePiece community predicts that the team will ultimately consist of 13 people. The hypothesis gained traction when Eiichiro Oda assigned a Chinese zodiac sign to each Straw Hat in a color spread he produced for chapter 651. Only the rat, rabbit, and dragon were left undesignated out of the 13 animals that were utilized to create the signs.
In addition, the cover page for chapter 861 features 13 cats lounging around; each cat is meant to symbolize a Straw Hat, of which there are still three members to be revealed. There is also the “Four per Sea” idea, which asserts that Luffy obtains four new members for each area of the sea he sails in.
He brought in Zoro, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji from East Blue. Brook, Franky, Robin, and Chopper joined the group in Paradise. As of this point in the New World, only Jinbe has officially joined the group, leaving three seats open. While nothing has been officially revealed, there are some predictions about the characters who might join the crew.
Potential Characters Who Can Join The Straw Hat Crew in the Future
Although the Straw Hat Pirates feels complete right now if the theory holds any ground, there are still three more characters who might join the crew. Among those, few characters have shown the possibility of actually becoming members of the Straw Hat Pirates in One Piece.
The first one is Vivi, who is already considered a member of the Straw Hat Pirates. As of right now, the last update fans got about Vivi was that she escaped Mary Geoise, became a fugitive, and went into hiding from Imu and the Five Elders. The Straw Hats might save her in the future and recruit her again.
Another character that has shown the potential of becoming one of the Straw Hat Pirates is Jewelry Bonney. When Bonney and her crew were captured by the Blackbeard Pirates who wanted to hand her over to the Marines, Bonney escaped and left her crew behind. She is right now fighting with the Straw Hat Pirates against Saturn and Kizaru and can very well join the crew in the future.
