“Batman Beyond” takes fans into a Gotham of the future, where Bruce Wayne is not fit anymore to protect the city. He passes down his mantle to Terry McGinnis, a 16-year-old high school student. The 1999 TV Show was a huge hit and fans have since clamored for a cinematic revival of the futuristic Dark Knight.
However, news coming from DC might throw some cold water on these hopes. Just like fans, the producers too had considered bringing back the story at some points. However, at last, the story of McGinnis was kept on a halt from making a comeback in the DC Animated Universe.
There Was a Roundtable Conference To Discuss A Batman Beyond Project
Butch Lukic is the supervising producer of DC Animated Universe and was also involved in the production of the original Batman Beyond. He recently sat down with Comicbookmovie for an interview where Lukic discussed many things. The producer was also asked about a potential revisit to the 1999 megahit, and his answer was a bit unpleasant for the fans.
“While I have you, I know you have a history with Batman Beyond, and as the supervising producer of this DC Universe, have you given any thought to potentially revisiting Terry McGinnis’ story?”, Asked ComicbookMovie
“Yeah. We discussed that during our roundtable conference. That was a few years ago and, at the time, no one really wanted to go down that route. If anyone should, it should, of course, be Bruce Timm. I’d love to do it, but I’ve had to do other stuff in the meantime, so…” Butch Lukic replied
While it is good to know that the producers once considered the project thoroughly, it is unfortunate that it was nowhere near coming to fruition. Further, if it is for live-action, it is too early to see Bruce Wayne passing on his mantle.
Batman Beyond Was Pitched to Warner Brothers Again Just a Few Months Ago
The producers had discussed Batman Beyond a few years ago, as revealed by Butch Lukic. However, filmmaker Yuhki Demers recently shared on X that he had pitched an idea for Batman Beyond animated feature movie just about five months ago.
Although the producers liked the team’s passion for the project, they ultimately shut it down, stating it wasn’t possible at the moment. Demers and his partner Patrick Harpin are currently busy reaching as many persons in DC as they can.
They even revealed some amazing concept art for the movie, which has further fueled the desire for a Batman Beyond film. Only time will tell whether the story of Terry McGinnis will ever be visited again or not. Until then, one can stream the original TV show on Max.
