Natalie Portman enjoyed a stellar run in the MCU as Thor’s love interest and later The Mighty Thor in Love and Thunder. The movie represented Portman’s last appearance in the MCU and ended with her death, although she did show up in the post-credit scene in Valhalla alongside Heimdall, who had also previously perished in the series.

Regardless, in a recent interview, Portmand discussed the possibility of a return to the MCU, stating that while she would be interested, no one has asked her to make another appearance. At the same time, the return of The Mighty Thor is an outlined possibility, considering the fact that that is exactly what went down in the comics.

Not only did Jane Foster return to life as The Mighty Thor, she joins the fight against Malekith the Accursed and his army when launch an invasion on Midgard, known to human beings like us as Earth. The same also gives Marvel an option to move on from the disasterclass that has been on display, via The Kang Dynasty.

Natalie Portman is open to a return to the MCU, and we know how this can happen

Natalie Portman’s character may have died in the MCU. However, considering the range of ways in which the franchise can bring her back to life, we believe they should, especially as the actress herself recently claimed that she will be open to such a possibility:

Oh, I have no idea. I mean, no one’s asked me to. So I don’t know. But sure, that was super-fun. Yeah, it was so fun. I had such a great time making it,” she says. “I loved working with Taika [Waititi], and Chris [Hemsworth] is just the greatest, and so is Tessa [Thompson].I was just laughing all day, every day. There’s only my highest love for that experience – and not to mention Australia, which is just the most glorious country.

While she may not have explicitly stated that she wants a return, the kind of praise that she offered for multiple figures that were involved in Love and Thunder means that she will not refuse, if an offer indeed comes in.

Furthermore, as stated above, such a return of The Mighty Thor solves another major problem that MCU has been struggling with, as of late. They do not have a big villain to take stead in the next Avengers saga, and while that role may already have been earmarked for a certain Galactus, Avengers 7 and 8 presents an interesting possibility, with respect to Malekith the Accursed.

Who is Malekith the Accursed, and what does he want?

In the War of the Realms comics arc, Jane Foster’s The Mighty Thor was one of the plethora of Asguardians who fought against Malekith the Accursed. This was, of course, after she had been revived by the likes of Thor and Odin himself.

Regardless, Malekith is the ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim, and once was the owner of the Casket of Ancient Winters, an ancient relic weapon which contains the fury of a thousand killing winters. Fancy-sounding, indeed.

The character itself has a historic problem with Thor, who, considering his best fighting days are behind him in the movies, gives further room to Jane Foster’s The Mighty Thor to take the narrative further. In the War of the Realms, Malekith the Accursed wished to destroy the entire Midgaard, which is part of his overall aim of returning the universe back to its eternal darkness.

To do this, he enlists an entire army and takes help from The Dark Council, which includes some of the most evil characters across the Marvel multiverse, who all wish to destroy the universe.

Hence, as we delve deeper into the multiversal conundrums apparent in Marvel Comics, Malekith the Accurser is a potential big villain who can help the franchise move towards the future. That, will also include a return of Natalie Portman, which is an added benefit of such an arrangement.

Thor: Love and Thunder is available to be viewed on Disney+.
