Taylor Lautner has been known around the world for portraying the role of Jacob Black in the Twilight franchise. With the fiasco of Taylor Swift at the 2009 VMA’s, Lautner has regretted the moments when Kanye West interrupted her speech.
Talking about a moment where Lautner wishes he could return back to, the actor stated that he would jump back at the VMA’s of 2009 and stop the charade. Having regret over this incident, Taylor Lautner was quoted saying that “that wasn’t good”.
Taylor Lautner Regrets The Taylor Swift-Kanye West Incident
Back in 2009, Kanye West rudely interrupted Taylor Swift’s winning speech and publicly stated “I’m gonna let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time”. Although people took it as a joke at that time, Taylor Swift wasn’t done with West but Lautner had no idea what was going on.
Since he was the host, Taylor Lautner revealed that he couldn’t properly hear what West and Swift were saying. Thinking that it was an impromptu skit, Lautner thought it was all part of an act until he saw Taylor Swift’s face when she turned back. On the podcast called The Squeeze, the Twilight actor revealed that he regrets that speech to this day!
“I can barely hear it. I can’t see them. I’m just assuming that this whole thing was a practiced and rehearsed skit because why else would Kanye West be jumping up on the stage, interrupting Taylor Swift? It just didn’t make sense.”
He further continued,
“I’m actually caught like, laughing like giggling at them. I’m like, ‘I can’t hear them, but this is probably really funny right now.’ He jumped off, she finished. The second she [Taylor Swift] turned back around and I saw her face for the first time, I was like, ‘Oh. [That wasn’t a skit.] No, that wasn’t good.’”
Being famous for putting her real-life incidents into songs, Taylor Swift suffered insults from Kanye West twice but later changed her persona. With the iconic lines “Cause she’s dead”, Taylor Swift later redefined her personality and came up with the album of Reputation.
Taylor Lautner’s Friendship With Robert Pattinson Was Also Strained
Portraying enemies in the Twilight franchise, Lautner and Robert Pattinson weren’t actually enemies in real life. Being good friends, Lautner revealed that the constant reminder of fans taking his or Pattinson’s side did have an impact on his friendship with The Batman actor.
“Yeah, it was a little bizarre, the competitiveness. There wasn’t a competitiveness between me and Rob, but having that constant reminder, definitely had an impact.”
After Twilight, Taylor Lautner decided to star in the 2011 film called Abduction. With terrible reviews, the actor essentially ended his career but recently appeared in Taylor Swift’s 2023 music video I Can See You (Taylor’s Version).
