Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness introduced Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch turning into a full-blown villain to reunite with her sons, Billy and Tommy. While many fans couldn’t agree on this major plot of turning an incredible character into an antagonist, she was unhappy with what writer, Michael Waldron did to her MCU character. It is not very shocking given that the actress has already spilled the beans that the movie writers hadn’t watched her show, WandaVision.

The Disney+ series revolves around Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff and Vision living in an idyllic suburban life as a married couple with two children. As the show progresses, audiences get to see that there is something deep troubling going on in Westview. Given that it explored the true nature of Wanda’s abilities, the show received major acclaim for its creative approach along with its impact on the larger MCU. However, the next we saw Wanda was in Benedict Cumberbatch’s movie with the character getting corrupted after possessing Darkhold. Though it garnered mixed reviews from critics, the former was unhappy with her character’s approach in the movie.
Elizabeth Olsen Was Not Happy With How Scarlet Witch Was Handled in Doctor Strange 2
Recently, a resurfaced interview of Elizabeth Olsen is making rounds on the Internet where she reflected on playing her Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. From the likes of it, she was seemingly unhappy with how her character was written in the movie despite it having a connection with her Disney+ series, WandaVision. She shared in the resurfaced Vanity Fair interview,
“It’s a similar arc that I had to play in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. There could be parallel stories being told there, of dealing with grief and loss.”
She also revealed that the movie writers had not seen her series at the time.
“Well, I proposed that to the writers who wrote Multiverse of Madness. I said ‘Do you know what we’re doing in WandaVision? Have you seen it?’ and no, they had not seen it, because it wasn’t finished yet. So I had to try and, I don’t know, play it differently, right? I had to attack the same themes in order for it to be interesting for me, I think, and potentially for the audience. I had to come at it from a different point of view so that it wasn’t repetitive.”
For the unversed, Benedict Cumberbatch’s movie began production soon after the MCU series aired in January 2021. She was hoping to keep Wanda’s storyline as consistent as possible in the movie. This video resurfaced as the movie writer, Michael Waldron gets onboard to pen for an anticipated Marvel project.

Deadline has confirmed that Michael Waldron has officially taken charge of writing the anticipated MCU movie, Avengers: Secret Wars. Other than penning the 2022 MCU movie, he has created and served as showrunner of Loki Season 1. He is also been tapped to pen Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which will happen before Secret Wars.
However, this news has divided the fans with many voicing their dislike due to his previous work in the Doctor Strange sequel. Many sided with Olsen over how her character could have dealt in a completely different way had the movie writer watched the show.

its really sad to live in a universe where they did her a full villain at this movie, I would like so much more if it was like the Civil War, but at the end she realizes she’s being played by some entity, and join forces with her colleague Strange. pic.twitter.com/DWiZyVkzih

This is where the disconnect for the MCU started to begin. Wanda’s redemption story had already begun and ended with Wandavision. Only to essentially restart with Multiverse of Madness. Tone wise it made zero sense and bordered on repitiviness.
