Ewan McGregor Urges Fans to Write to Disney to Bring Obi-Wan Kenobi to Life!

Despite the lukewarm reception of the show Obi-Wan Kenobi, actor Ewan McGregor, who has charmed audiences with his portrayal of the character throughout the years, is determined to keep it alive. While speaking at a panel in Orlando, MegaCon Orlando 2024, the actor elaborated on how the series came to life. Amidst all the uncertainty, he jokingly urged the fans present to write to Disney to make another season happen. He said,

“There was originally gonna be a movie, and I’ve often thought, should it have been a movie? But I kinda think it’s great that they did it that way, and it’s a longer story, and hopefully it’s more satisfying as a result. We got more time to weave a story. Let’s hope they do another one. Can everyone write to Disney?”

It turns out that the Disney+ series was originally planned as a movie. However, since the story was too long to fit into a two-hour timeframe, they decided to take their time with it and turn it into a series. While opinions about the first season are strong and varied, some elements of the show were great. However, Disney’s focus at the moment seems to be elsewhere, particularly in making a mark in theaters. Thus, they might not be putting too much emphasis on renewing a mid-tier show. Therefore, it’s safe to say that Season 2 will not be coming anytime soon.

One thing the fans have been crystal clear about is that they want more of Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan and less of whatever the first season tried to do. McGregor is game for round two, but one shouldn’t hold their breath for it to happen anytime soon.

Most likely if Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 isn’t on the horizon now, it might never happen, though there’s still a glimmer of hope. The biggest hurdle? As established before, the lukewarm reception of the first season. McGregor’s involvement does give the series a fighting chance, but any plans for Obi-Wan’s next adventure need to be seriously captivating to stand a chance, will Obi-Wan Kenobi get a second chance to prove itself?
