After Obi-Wan Kenobi debuted in 2022, it fell short of the high hopes people had for it by a significant margin. Unfortunately, it couldn’t leave much of an impression. Although it did find its niche among the Star Wars fans, there just weren’t many good things people had to say about the show. But Ewan McGregor, the actor who plays Obi-Wan, really wants to make things happen. Despite not being sure what will happen next, McGregor spoke to fans at a conference, asking them to help bring the show back for more seasons.
Ewan McGregor Urges Fans to Write to Disney to Bring Obi-Wan Kenobi to Life!
Despite the lukewarm reception of the show Obi-Wan Kenobi, actor Ewan McGregor, who has charmed audiences with his portrayal of the character throughout the years, is determined to keep it alive. While speaking at a panel in Orlando, MegaCon Orlando 2024, the actor elaborated on how the series came to life. Amidst all the uncertainty, he jokingly urged the fans present to write to Disney to make another season happen. He said,
“There was originally gonna be a movie, and I’ve often thought, should it have been a movie? But I kinda think it’s great that they did it that way, and it’s a longer story, and hopefully it’s more satisfying as a result. We got more time to weave a story. Let’s hope they do another one. Can everyone write to Disney?”
It turns out that the Disney+ series was originally planned as a movie. However, since the story was too long to fit into a two-hour timeframe, they decided to take their time with it and turn it into a series. While opinions about the first season are strong and varied, some elements of the show were great. However, Disney’s focus at the moment seems to be elsewhere, particularly in making a mark in theaters. Thus, they might not be putting too much emphasis on renewing a mid-tier show. Therefore, it’s safe to say that Season 2 will not be coming anytime soon.
Do People Want a Second Season of Obi-Wan Kenobi?
Although it’s highly unlikely that Obi-Wan Kenobi would return for a second season for at least a few years, if one were to remain optimistic about it, the real question arises, do fans even want that? Their sentiments are incredibly passionate on the matter, to say the least, and as a result, some have chosen to express their concerns through various social media platforms.
Here are some of the fan reactions,
After season one, nobody wants to see that shiz.
It’s like, I would love more Kenobi, but they have to actually put Kenobi in the show this time. If it’s another season of a toddler running through the woods that a bunch of adults can’t catch and all about two girls, I’m out.

This is not necessary and should not be done, they are other good original movies that should be done.

I've seen fanmade shorts that were better written, better produced and better filmed than this piece of crap. What an absolute insult of a tvshow.

One thing the fans have been crystal clear about is that they want more of Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan and less of whatever the first season tried to do. McGregor is game for round two, but one shouldn’t hold their breath for it to happen anytime soon.
Most likely if Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 isn’t on the horizon now, it might never happen, though there’s still a glimmer of hope. The biggest hurdle? As established before, the lukewarm reception of the first season. McGregor’s involvement does give the series a fighting chance, but any plans for Obi-Wan’s next adventure need to be seriously captivating to stand a chance, will Obi-Wan Kenobi get a second chance to prove itself?
The first season of Obi-Wan Kenobi is currently streaming on Disney+.
