According to sources, a producer of the film tried to convince Dunst to get some work done on her teeth to make her smile more perfect, especially for the famous upside-down kissing scene with Spider-Man. Responding to what he called ‘Barbie doll teeth’, the Marie-Antoinette actor remained firm in her decision and said,

“I was like, ‘Mmmmm, no, I like my teeth. Nope. Not doing that,”.

Dunst claimed that her mother being a stickler for perfection in appearance made her go the opposite way and embrace her physical flaws even more. This in turn made her reject the offer to get her teeth transformed for the big screen.

Kirsten Dunst Blossomed Under Sofia Coppola’s Mentorship

Kirsten Dunst’s journey from an innocent child star to a seasoned actor is an inspirational one. One of her biggest influences was director Sofia Coppola who cast a young and raw 16-year-old Dunst in The Virgin Suicides, a film about five alluring yet tormented sisters. The movie gave Coppola a chance to mold and mentor Dunst and teach her the tricks of the trade while allowing her to embrace her natural physicality. Dunst who blossomed under Coppola’s wing, spoke highly of the director and her contribution to her career saying,

“The fact that the coolest girl liked how I looked, that’s what preserved me. She made me feel pretty. So to have my first experience of a more ‘sexy’ role be through her eyes gave me a confidence that helped me deal with a lot of other things.”
