The series did so after it received a 90% rating by critics on the site as well as an 89% audience score. This is significant when one compares these scores with past projects by the franchise. The Walking Dead: Dead City, the beloved spin-off featuring Maggie and Negan received a score of 81%.

The series’s score matches the one of the fifth season of The Walking Dead and is the best-reviewed season of any show from the franchise since the sixth season of Fear the Walking Dead. It is also above the ninth season of the original series, which had a score of 89%, and is rated better than all past seasons of the franchise, with the lowest rated being the ninth season, with a rating of 80%.
