Zack Snyder has high hopes for Rebel Moon. The space opera epic is set to hit theatres on Friday, and the director has already teased its awaiting universe in the future. Starring Sofia Boutella, alongside Charlize Theron and other notable actors, Snyder has opened up about his wish to cast a sports icon in the movie.
Discussing all things Rebel Moon in a recent interview, the notable director revealed that he is determined to turn it into a full-blown franchise. With an upcoming sequel to Rebel Moon- Part One: A Child of Fire already decided to be released in April, Snyder also plans on developing a mobile game, a comic book series, and much more.
Zack Snyder to cast NBA legend
After 2021’s Zack Snyder’s Justice League, the 57-year-old director probably engrossed himself in developing his franchise, Rebel Moon. Talking to Variety on Thursday, Zack Snyder revealed that his Netflix film series will be longer than usual. Apart from that, when he was asked about his dream cast, he blurted out a rather unusual name in the film industry.
Co-producer and Snyder’s wife, Deborah chimed in to the question and said,
“We have the dream cast.”
However, Snyder opted for a bit more ambitious response. He admitted,
“I think if I could get LeBron James in the movie … I know that sounds crazy. I’m just saying … but yeah, we’ll see as the story evolves.”
The world would surely love King James’ take on it, see if he is interested in a franchise debut, although he owns a film production company himself. Until then, Snyder addresses it only as an idea, a crazy idea, precisely.
Zack Snyder’s plans for the Rebel Moon universe
The Award-winning director opened up about developing a whole world around Rebel Moon, with an upcoming comic book series, a mobile game, an animated film, and interestingly, his photography book comprising of B&W pictures taken by him on the set of Rebel Moon while a sequel to Child of Fire seems old news by now. He told Marc Malkin of Variety,
“We have sort of an arc for this storyline that is a little bit longer … This movie will end and, in April, you’ll get another one, which is really even crazier than this one.”
However, that was not it. The Man of Steel director claimed that after the sequel hits theatres in April, it’s going to be a wild ride for fans. Snyder chimed in,
“we have a few more ideas up our sleeve. So that’d be fun.”
Rebel Moon premiered in Los Angeles, this Wednesday, and shall be available only in the U.S. for a limited theatrical preview. However, the PG-13-rated movie will be available to stream on Netflix starting 21 December.
