In June, the National Football League (NFL) team, the Kansas City Chiefs visited the White House after the Super Bowl. During the visit, football player Travis Kelce told President Joe Biden, “Stay right there, though,” and went up to the presidential podium and said,
“I’ve been waiting for this…” he was then pulled away.
As per Yahoo! Sports, his teammate Patrick Mahomes then pulled him away from the podium and said, “Sorry, sorry.” The incident quickly went viral and one fan joked, “Not even the Secret Service can guard this man.” Many jokes and memes were made and the light-hearted joke made everyone laugh.
President Joe Biden fell for the oldest trick in the book
In an episode of the podcast New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce, brothers Jason and Travis Kelce recalled the incident and Jason Kelce said,
“It was the oldest trick in the book and Joe fell for it – I mean come on.”
Travis Kelce then explained what was going through his mind when he went up to the presidential podium,
“Obviously the president at the podium, it’s iconic, right? It’s iconic and how he usually addresses the nation [is] ‘To my fellow Americans.’ That’s all I wanted to say, dude. That’s it… I shouldn’t have started off with ‘I’ve always wanted to do this.'”
The athlete is currently in the headlines for his relationship with singer Taylor Swift, which reportedly began in September 2023. In mid-October, the pair stepped out together in New York City, confirming the rumors.
