It has been over half a decade since The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part opened to critical acclaim, but failed to make it big at the box office, leading to WB selling the IP to Universal. But at last, a new entry in the franchise is finally coming our way, starring some of the biggest names in the realm of music, including the likes of Snoop Dogg, Gwen Stefani, and Kendrick Lamar.
Announced back in January, the upcoming LEGO Pharrell Williams biopic’s trailer was finally unveiled, and Lamar’s first look from the film has sent fans into a frenzy.
Kendrick Lamar’s LEGO Figurine Has Left Fans Asking for Drake’s Next

Kendrick Lamar has been making headlines online following his feud with Drake and J. Cole, which has only escalated in the past few months. However, things could’ve been better for fans, as everyone got to enjoy some acclaimed tracks from Drake and Lamar, as both dragged each other to hell with lyrical jabs. But a good portion of fans labeled the Like That rapper victorious, and are now excited by his appearance in Piece by Piece.

Based on Pharrell Williams‘ real-life story, often considered one of the most influential artists of the 21st century, the upcoming LEGO release is set to feature some of the biggest names in the industry. Apart from Lamar, the cast includes Gwen Stefani, Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, Busta Rhymes, JAY-Z, and Snoop Dogg. And now reacting to Lamar’s Lego figurine from the trailer, fans are jokingly demanding Drake‘s next, while some stressed it doesn’t resemble Lamar at all.

Considering it will be the first LEGO release since the financial letdown of The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, fans will hole, like the Drake vs Lamar beef, this too delivers.
Pharrell Williams on Partnering with Morgan Neville for the Biopic

When it was announced that Williams’ life story would be condensed into a LEGO feature, it was certainly a surprise to fans, as there have been no LEGO films in the past five years. Reflecting on this decision, the Happy Singer expressed that “building with LEGO bricks encourages us to follow our imagination”. The singer further stressed he couldn’t have found a better partner than director Morgan Neville to put his story onscreen.
He explained:
When I had this crazy vision to tell this story through LEGO bricks, I couldn’t have imagined a better partner than [director] Morgan. He is a legend.
Considering the 20 Feet from Stardom director is no stranger to helming acclaimed documentary musicals, it’s easy to see why Williams is confident with Neville. Fans will also hope this kickstart a new era for LEGO animated releases, as the IP has been sitting on ice for far too long.
Piece by Piece will hit theatres on October 11th, 2024.
