When it was announced that Williams’ life story would be condensed into a LEGO feature, it was certainly a surprise to fans, as there have been no LEGO films in the past five years. Reflecting on this decision, the Happy Singer expressed that “building with LEGO bricks encourages us to follow our imagination”. The singer further stressed he couldn’t have found a better partner than director Morgan Neville to put his story onscreen.

He explained:

When I had this crazy vision to tell this story through LEGO bricks, I couldn’t have imagined a better partner than [director] Morgan. He is a legend.

Considering the 20 Feet from Stardom director is no stranger to helming acclaimed documentary musicals, it’s easy to see why Williams is confident with Neville. Fans will also hope this kickstart a new era for LEGO animated releases, as the IP has been sitting on ice for far too long.

Piece by Piece will hit theatres on October 11th, 2024.
