Henry Cavill appeared as Superman in the post-credit scene of Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, fans thought Cavill’s time to portray The Metropolis Marvel had finally arrived. However, that was not the case as James Gunn, who took over the DC Studios as the Co-CEO decided to sack the actor from the franchise and hired David Corenswet to play the role. Fans were not delighted by this decision, especially because of the uncanny resemblance of Corenswet’s resemblance with Cavill.

Though he isn’t a part of the DC franchise anymore, there’s a slight opportunity that James Gunn might bring back Cavill to play Superman, as he had previously announced that there will be Elseworlds Chapters that won’t be a part of the main franchise, but separate individual DC films. Moreover, during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Cavill mentioned that he was interested in Superman: Red Son before he agreed to work in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel.

“I think the offbeat stories are great, and I read Red Son in particular before I did Man of Steel, to get an idea of the baseline of the character because despite the fact that it’s offbeat and he’s grown up in a completely different environment, the character is still, at it’s very core, the same thing, and I love that.”

The Tudors actor added that despite a change in the environment, the character remains the same and this is the reason, he loves the offbeat stories so much.

“I think what’s important now is to tell a story which is dedicated to sharing the same character in the comic books in the cinematic universe, and then after that’s been established, then we can start exploring some more of the offbeat stuff.”

Cavill’s answer gives a ray of hope to the DC fans, as they get to see the actor in his iconic role, in the Elseworlds Arc. In addition to the ray of hope, the actor shares how his portrayal of the character was different.

Henry Cavill’s Superman Is Psychologically Fragile

In the same interview with Entertainment Weekly, Henry Cavill was asked how a lot of viewers complained that Superman is invincible, which makes him a boring character, as he could not be hurt. The actor replied that even though certain people that Superman is invincible to physical pain, psychologically he is the same as us, human beings.

“The thing about Superman is that although he is physically infallible, psychologically he’s very much vulnerable to the same things that make us vulnerable. When you’re doing your best, your utmost, and you still can’t save everyone, and then people point their finger at you and call you the bad guy, I mean, that would be enormously frustrating. I know the human reaction would be, ‘Hold on a second, F-you man,’ and his reaction is the first half of that: not quite the ‘F-you.’ It’s the hurt.'”

While it’ll be somewhat heartbreaking to see Cavill not being the main Superman of James Gunn’s DCU, it will be a pleasure to watch him helm the role, needless to say, the theatres will be housefull.
