Imagine Daniel Craig, the actor who brought James Bond to life, crying while watching a British Gas commercial on television. Celebrities don’t usually break down in tears over a simple commercial, but this incident brought home a deeper longing.
After starring in films like Casino Royale and No Time to Die, among others, the English-American actor gained international fame, which is largely attributable to his role as James Bond. Craig had his first on-screen role in The Power of One in 1992, playing an Afrikaner, and went on to appear in some of the best movies, emerging as a true Hollywood star.
Last year, we saw him reprise his private investigator role as Benoit Blanc in the 2022 mystery film Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, for which he received the Critics’ Choice Movie Award for Best Acting Ensemble.
Daniel Craig’s Emotional Breakdown: The Power of British Gas Ad
Daniel Craig, who resides in New York City with his wife, Rachel Weisz, and their two adorable children, once admitted to The Guardian that he was effortlessly “moved” by all forms of art and that even television commercials could elicit an emotional response. When asked what his favorite genre of art was, he replied:
“Gosh. I love all art forms. I love a good show. I love being taken somewhere and I love being fooled. I love to cry, I love to laugh. When art does that – and it does, very often, do that to me – I’m moved. It can be music, it can be anything; it can be a commercial on the TV if it’s the right one.”
After that, he related a remarkable story about a time when (via The Guardian)
“There was a great British Gas one a couple of years ago that was just this family having a bath. When I watched that I was like, ‘Oh my God, it’s so moving.’ Maybe because I missed England.”
Despite having a toned body, the 55-year-old celebrity insisted he never used to constantly monitor his diet. In response to inquiries from The Guardian, Craig stated:
“Yes, for God’s sake, I do eat greasy fried eggs at least once a week. For sure. They’re my favourite on toast with Worcestershire sauce.”
What Would Daniel Craig Do if He Were Not an Actor?
Given the opportunity to live without any constraints and the presumption that Daniel Craig would be free to pursue any career he desired, where in the world would the actor choose to reside? To put it simply, the father of two would love working on the water if he were not an actor as he told The Guardian:
“I’d like to be at sea. I’m terrified of the ocean. It’s a fearful place, but also just unimaginably beautiful as well. If I had a choice I would do something where you had to go and be challenged by it. ”
The actor had always imagined traveling by “boat across the Atlantic,” but (per The Guardian)
“I didn’t really see myself on cruise liners. You can actually do it on cargo ships, I think, as a captain’s guest. That is very appealing. To have no light pollution, underneath a canopy of stars, would be spectacular.”
The Knives Out star shared that he did not have any firm “plans” in place now that he has left the James Bond franchise, But he has made it clear that he has no interest in entering the world of directing or political career:
“Go home, put my feet up, have a cup of tea. I don’t have plans. I like acting. Producing is a natural extension; I helped produce these movies. Directing always seems to me too much like hard work. I’m not a great spokesman, but I really try to actively involve myself with good causes. Business empires … it’s not my thing.”
Well, next up for Craig is the upcoming Luca Guadagnino romantic period drama film Queer, which is based on the 1985 William S. Burroughs novel of the same name. It also stars Outer Banks actor Drew Starkey.
Until then, you can watch his last release, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, on Netflix.
