“Omg I’m a tranny with a grammy”: Kim Petras Claps Back at Transphobes after Becoming First Trans Woman Grammy Winner

Kim Petras is a rising superstar. Petras became the first transgender woman to win a Grammy in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category. In 2006 the Clarity singer first made her appearance as a proud transgender, in the German television show. Petras was assigned male at the time of birth but the singer realized her true self from a very young age. Petras constantly advocated for awareness towards transgenders from her teens by constantly fighting for the permission and regulation of early gender reassignment surgery. In November 2008, Petras announced her complete transition.

Petras became the youngest person at that time to undergo gender reassignment surgery. Petras was only 16 when her surgery was completed. The singer never let societal prejudice stop her and established her successful career internationally. Petras won the 65th Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for her sensational song Unholy in collaboration with Sam Smith.

Kim Petras Grabs Grammy as Proud Transgender

Kim Petras was surely overwhelmed by achieving this milestone. Grammy is one of the highest accolades a singer can win. Singers across the globe aspire to win the award and it looks like Kim Petras has achieved her first Grammy. Being the first transgender woman to get honored with a Grammy in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category will be penned down across history.  

Petras was overfilled with emotions when she received the award for all her years of struggle and hard work. The Unholy singer thanked Sam Smith who encouraged the rising star to accept the award. Petras made sure to express her gratitude to all the previous transgenders in the industry whose struggles are the true reason that aided Petras in her journey. Lastly, the Turn Off the Light star thanked her role model Madonna who inspired Petras in her challenging journey. 

“Sam graciously wanted me to accept this award because I’m the first transgender woman to win this award. I just want to thank all the incredible transgender legends before me who kicked these doors open before me so I could be here tonight. Sophie, my friend who passed away two years ago told me this would happen and always believed in me. Thank you so much for your inspiration, Sophie. I adore you, and your inspiration will forever be in my music. Madonna for fighting for LGBT rights. So much. I don’t think I could be here without Madonna.”

Kim Petras Slammed Transphobes After Her Big Win

Kim Petras made headlines after taking the 65th Grammy to her home. The internet was filled with Petras’s supporters who celebrated her landmark victory. Petras took to her Twitter to slam all the haters and transphobes who in the 21st century are still struggling to accept the transgender community. Grammy winner wrote, “Omg I’m a tranny with a grammy…” subtly criticizing the haters who kept exploiting the transgender community as a whole.
