Thanos laid his hands on the infinity gauntlet, rising as the most powerful supervillain in the MCU. His ill use of the mighty weapon gave him the supreme powers to erase all events in the universe with the snap of his fingers. However, it was not Josh Brolin’s Thanos who had ordered the making of the gauntlet in the first place.

King of Asgard, Odin Borson was regarded as the protector of the Nine Realms. Theories have emerged that among the most powerful of the Asgardian gods, Odin had first ordered the creation of the weapon that would channel the optimum powers of the six infinity stones. Therefore, it is also speculated Odin also went digging for the stones before Thanos.

Had the King of the Gods grasped the Infinity Gauntlet before Thanos, it does not warrant he would have made better use of it though. Father of Thor, Odin was killed in Thor: Ragnarok. However, Odin had been portrayed as one of the oldest characters in the MCU, with ulterior motives to establish the Asgardian Empire’s dominance in the Nine Realms.

The Asgardian King was assisted by his evil daughter Hela, who ultimately killed Odin in Ragnarok. The movie also teased the presence of a fake gauntlet in Odin’s vault that indicates the God of War’s intent to possess the Infinity stones. In the movie, Hela is confident the gauntlet is fake, which stirs up the theory that she, being the eldest of Odin’s children, and the original wielder of the Mjolnir, might have accompanied her father’s hunt for the Infinity stones.

Thanos utilized his powers from the gauntlet to establish dominance over all six aspects of existence. However, as the theories suggest, Odin might have sought the weapon to conquer the Nine Realms. Even though portrayed in a much pitier state in Thor: Ragnarok, Odin was originally depicted as a ruthless character, with little signs of kindness or as a peacemaker, in the MCU. Thus, fans theorize they’d rather see Thanos turn the universe to dust than witness Anthony Hopkins’ Odin rise to evil powers.

Odin’s search for the precious gemstones eventually became futile. A strange turn of events altered Odin’s ambitions and opted for peace instead. But his daughter and The Executioner of Asgard, Hela was nowhere to stop. Hence, her rising bloodthirst urged Odin to exile her. After Loki took over Asgard, disguised as Odin, and exiled his father to earth, Odin’s fading powers allowed Hela to loose free from Hel.

In Taika Waititi’s Ragnarok, Hela interrupts a heartfelt moment between Odin and his two sons, Thor and Loki. This is the first time Thor met his elder sister and the main antagonist of the film. Finally, Odin disintegrated into the energy of Odinforce and entered Valhalla. Probably, Odin can act as the greatest villain in an alternate universe in the MCU.
