Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel could have the potential solution for the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it navigates a challenging landscape marked by dwindling audience reception and uncertainty. With the exit of Jonathan Majors from his role as Kang the Conqueror, a planned overarching villain, Marvel Studios faces the daunting task of redefining its narrative trajectory.
However, amidst these challenges, there is a glimmer of hope found in a comic arc revolving around the Kree warrior, where Vox Supreme abducts her and assigns her the task of eliminating the Avengers within a tight deadline of twenty-four hours. It could potentially serve as the beacon of redemption for the MCU, offering a fresh thematic direction and revitalizing the studio’s faltering legacy, along with putting the Marvel superhero upfront among Avengers.
Captain Marvel Arc From Comics Could be a Potential Game-Changer for the MCU
Amidst the chaos of shifting storylines and the potential departure of key characters like Kang the Conqueror, there lies a narrative arc centered around Captain Marvel that could potentially steer the MCU back to its former glory.
The arc in question revolves around the formidable Carol Danvers facing off against the Marvel villain Vox Supreme in the pages of Captain Marvel #16. Vox Supreme kidnaps Carol Danvers, trapping her in a symbiote-like garment that monitors her every move.
The suit’s purpose is to ensure Danvers fulfills her mission of eliminating the Avengers under the threat of Vox detonating bombs in Kree refugee camps worldwide. Despite the apparent constraints on the superhero, she devises a strategy to rescue everyone and vanquish Vox Supreme.
She secures each Avenger’s unconscious body in a pocket dimension beyond Vox’s reach. She then delivers the deactivated clones of the Avengers, disguised as their remains, which he intended to utilize to spawn a superior lifeform.
Her plan works, however, Vox also ends up attaching her to it as well. Although she manages to escape, she still absorbs the essence of the deceased clone bodies, undergoing a monstrous transformation infused with the powers of each Avenger, and defeats the Marvel villain with her newfound abilities.
The storyline offers a fresh narrative direction and fosters profound character growth, showcasing Captain Marvel’s resilience and a threat that targets the superhero ensemble and how they unite to defeat the supervillain, giving fans something interesting to follow.
Adapting the Story Arc Would Also Put Forth the Captain Marvel
Brie Larson’s Caron Danvers has had plenty of screen time in her solo movies in the MCU. However, the same has not been the case with her appearance in ensemble films like Avengers: Endgame, where she joins the superheroes in the battle against the supervillain Thanos.
The 2019 film features her in the first 10 minutes before she disappears for the whole film, only to make a memorable entry in the final battle. However, this portrayal doesn’t fully showcase her abilities, as Danvers has the ability to finish off the whole battle in minutes.
Adapting Captain Marvel #16 potentially for a Captain Marvel threequel would not only allow the makers to fully utilize the character’s powers and abilities but would also offer fans an engaging Carol Danvers storyline, especially following the underwhelming sequel, The Marvels.
Captain Marvel films along with Avengers: Endgame are available to stream on Disney+.
