When the new spin-off sequel series of Castlevania was announced, fans were delighted to see the return of the dark fantasy anime series with a new twist. While the central theme of the series was the same, it introduced a new storyline, some new characters, and a new threat that helped shape the success of the series’ first season.

The series followed the adventures of Richter Belmont, the heir of the famous vampire hunter Belmont family. He, along with his adoptive sister, Maria Renard, and some more allies, tried to stop the rise of vampires during the French Revolution. The series is a blend of horror and fantasy, with a lot of drama and action.
However, all these new elements of Castlevania: Nocturne were shaped around the return of one character from the previous Castlevania anime series. The character is none other than Alucard, one of the main protagonists of the Castlevania series. Castlevania: Nocturne’s showrunner once revealed that he was the driving force behind the spin-off series.
The Driving Force for Castlevania: Nocturne
Last year in September, after the release of Castlevania: Nocturne, co-showrunner Kevin Kolde and directors Sam and Adam Deats were interviewed by Bloody disgusting and were asked about the return of Alucard and whether they planned his comeback or if it was a spur-of-the-moment thing. Kolde revealed that Alucard’s return was the sole thing that formed the base of Castlevania: Nocturne.
Kolde pointed out:
Yeah, Alucard’s return was always planned for this part in the story arc at the end of the season. We wrote everything else around that.
While talking about the expansion of the series, Kolde explained:
We’re always looking at the broader Castlevania universe when it comes to where we should expand and evolve. Nocturne has felt like an evolution and expansion of what we did in the original series. We never want to be in a position of just doing the same thing over and over again.

As the entire Castlevania series is based on the Japanese game, it had a broad universe to expand and evolve, and Castlevania: Nocturne simply focused on this expansion and brought the new story with the essence of its predecessor in the form of Alucard and the theme of vampire hunting.
Alucard’s Relationship With Richter and Maria Would Be Interesting
According to the director of the series, Sam Deats, the spin-off series will offer a new perspective in the form of a relationship that will be formed between the newly introduced characters, Richter and Maria, and the returning Alucard.

Sam stated:
As a Castlevania fan, I’m really excited to explore Richter and Maria’s relationship with Alucard on a more expanded level than what’s been previously seen. I’m excited to see them get to know each other and work together. We really wanted these new characters to shine, but there’s still plenty of new things to come for Alucard.
Even after Castlevania, the narrative of Alucard had a lot to offer because of his role in the gaming series.
Therefore, he has a lot of elements that can be explored and will hopefully reflect as a part of Castlevania: Nocturne through his upcoming relationship with the new characters, Richter and Maria.
