The world of One Piece is filled with mysteries that have been left unanswered till now. Many questions have emerged since the story began that have kept fans glued to the series in hopes of getting those questions answered. But while fans wait for these mysteries to be solved, they develop their theories to guess the best possible outcome in the story.
Some of these fan theories make sense, while some are just made by fans according to their understanding. These theories and notions may not always be right but they still give fans a sense of satisfaction, keeping them interested and in pace with the story. But in the case of Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, most of these theories are proved incorrect as he always reveals something unexpected that changes the entire scenario and shocks the fans.

One such theory that fans have created is the Shanks Twin theory which is a troubled one. The theory gained traction when Eiichiro Oda unveiled the Holy Knights in silhouette, and one of their members has a striking resemblance to Shanks. Fans believe that the silhouetted person is Shanks’ twin brother and he is a member of the Holy Knights.
What is the Shanks’ Twin Brother Theory in One Piece?
Oda revealed to the fans in chapter 1083 that Mary Geoise is guarded by a unique group of fighters known as the Holy Knights. Oda presented them as silhouettes, with one of the silhouettes striking a striking resemblance to the captain of the Red Hair Pirates captain, Yonko Red-Haired Shanks.
According to the fan theory, Shanks and his twin are members of a family of celestial dragons. Gol D. Roger, the pirate king, discovered Shanks in God Valley, whereupon the latter joined the pirates. His twin, on the other hand, stayed at Marie Joise and joined the Holy Knights who guard the city, eventually rising to the position of member and perhaps leader.

This also puts a premise to the notion that the individual who was seen interacting with Gorosei was not Shanks, but rather his identical twin. Fans believe that this is the perfect explanation for the silhouettes and Shanks meeting Gorosei and thus stops Shanks from becoming a spy for the world government which would be a rather big twist.
Reasons Behind Shanks Having a Twin
Throughout the series, Shanks is one of the most enigmatic figures. Even with his limited on-screen time, he has consistently had an impact on the series. The fact that his identity is unknown lends credence to the theory that he is concealing a significant aspect of himself, perhaps a twin.
Another example that adds weight to Shanks’s having a brother is the fact that he stole Luffy’s devil fruit from the World Government. Why would he steal the devil fruit in the first place if Shanks was the one who met Gorosei and he was genuinely working with the global government?

These and numerous other ideas suggest that Shanks may have had a twin brother, but Oda is the only one who is aware of the full story, so this theory is still far from reality. All these theories as always will be proved wrong when Oda san reveals the truth and shocks the entire One Piece fandom.
