Gibson’s work as an actor is immensely popular, as he has appeared in a wide genre of films ranging from drama, action, comedy, romance, and even giving his voice in animated films. However, Mel Gibson’s filmmaking skill was immensely praised in the controversial Biblical epic, The Passion of Christ. The movie narrated the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, with extreme graphic violence but that did not affect the popularity of the movie, even in 2023. And it looks like the Apocalypto director has decided to come up with a sequel to the 2004 movie, splitting into several parts.

Mel Gibson To Create A Sequel of Passion of The Christ

Mel Gibson’s Passion of The Christ was one of the most dramatic films of the decade, narrating the final 12 hours of Christ’s life, leading to his crucifixion. The film describes the New Testament of the Bible, and Jim Caviezel’s intense and emotional performance moved the audience to tears.

During an exclusive interview, Jim Caviezel stated Mel Gibson is set to make a sequel to Passion of the Christ, that will be “will be the biggest film in the history of the world.” He added that he saw some of the scenes from the sequel that left him on the “floor crying.”

“Mel [Gibson] took me through all of the scenes and I was on the floor crying […] it’ll be one of the best things you’ve ever seen. I can’t tell you [when it’s coming out]. If I told you I’d have to kill you.”

In a separate interview, The Sound of Freedom actor confirmed that he will reprise his role of Jesus Christ, and Gibson’s sequel will be split into a few parts.

“I asked him [Gibson] would you be ready to go in January, he said ‘yeah, maybe.’ I said, ‘how about the end of fall,’ he said ‘yeah, maybe.’ So who knows […] it might be two films, maybe three, but I think it’s two.”

The sequel has set high expectations among the fans of the first film which had hit the theatres in 2004, raking up $ 622.3 million worldwide at the box office. Though the film was criticized for its brutal depiction, it was overshadowed by being committed to showing the real story.

What Can Fans Expect in Mel Gibson’s The Passion of The Christ: Resurrection?

As the film is set to release in 2024, fans are excited to know what will happen in the sequel to the 2004 film. Gibson’s artistic plan for the upcoming film, clear from the title, the sequel will focus on Christ’s resurrection, showcasing the events of Easter. Moreover, in the sequel, it is quite possible that the director would use CGI techniques to make a memorable moment in the history of Hollywood cinema.

Moreover, fans will be left divisive, considering Mel Gibson’s instincts towards conventional wisdom, and how he has interpreted as leanings toward embracing ancient alien theory. Furthermore, Gibson has stated in several interviews that the story is not going to be linear, indicating the story will be different from the Bible.
