One Piece broke the internet with the latest Gear 5 transformation of Monkey D. Luffy. After an intense fight with Kaido, Luffy was seriously injured. All hopes were lost. But then with this amazing transformation, the Strawhats Captain easily defeated Kaido, thus freeing the Land of Wano. It was truly a memorable moment for all One Piece fans, who have watched Luffy grow for over 20 years.
But even after such a great transformation and mastery over advanced Conqueror’s Haki, Monkey D. Luffy is not the strongest character in the One Piece world. There are several characters, whose Conqueror’s Haki is far for advanced and powerful than Luffy Gear 5. Let us take a glimpse of those powerful individuals.
What Is Haki?
Every Shonen anime has its own name for spiritual power. In Dragon Ball, it is Chi, in Naruto it is Chakra. In the same way, in the One Piece world, it is known as Haki. In simpler words, Haki is the spiritual energy of a person. With training it can be developed into a variety of abilities that can be used during battles. There are three types of Haki – Observation Haki (Kenbunshoku), Armament Haki (Busoshoku), and Conqueror’s Haki (Haoshoku). The first two can be unlocked by anyone, but the latter is possessed by only a few powerful individuals.
5. Sengoku
Sengoku is the former Fleet Admiral of the Marines. He is one of the strongest characters in One Piece. He, along with Monkey D. Garp, has singlehandedly won many battles for the Marines. Sengoku ate the Hito Hito no Mi, Model – Daibutsu, Devil Fruit. Even though Sengoku never showcased his Conqueror’s Haki, his vivre card showed that he could use it. After years of training and reaching the highest level in Marines, there is no doubt that Monkey D. Luffy still needs to power up to match Sengoku’s level of mastery over Conqueror’s Haki.
4. Big Mom
Charlotte Linlin a.k.a. Big Mom, is one of the five Yonko. Big Mom is one of the strongest characters in One Piece. She can coat herself in advanced Conqueror’s Haki, which makes her impenetrable. During the Whole Cake Island arc, Monkey D. Luffy was not powerful enough to beat her. Even though he awakens his Devil Fruit and masters Ryuo, it is still not enough to defeat her. Big Mom ate Soru Soru no Mi Devil Fruit. With a bounty of 4,388,000,000 berries, Big Mom can easily knock out powerful foes like Page One with a single punch.
3. Monkey D. Garp
Monkey D. Garp said, “There is no defense against the Fist of Love”. Well, it is true. Monkey D. Garp is one of the vice-admirals in the Marines. He is nicknamed as Hero of the Marines, for his bravery during the incident of God Valley. Garp is the grandfather of Monkey D. Luffy. So it is not a surprise that Garp is one of the strongest in One Piece.
Even though he is old now, he still holds immense power in his punches. He can break mountains with ease. Garp easily flattened Don Chinjao’s drill head in a battle of Armament Haki. That goes to show how strong his Haki game is. He does not have any Devil Fruit powers, but his mastery in advanced Conqueror’s Haki is yet to be matched by Luffy. Moreover, even Luffy’s Gear 5 is defenseless against the ‘Fist of Love’.

2. Silvers Rayleigh
Silvers Rayleigh was the vice-captain of Roger Pirates and the right-hand man to Gol D. Roger. He was the one who taught Monkey D. Luffy about Haki and trained him for 2 years. Silvers Rayleigh was nicknamed ‘Dark King’. He possessed no Devil Fruit powers but his Conqueror’s Haki was on a different level. He stopped Marco, the Phoenix, with a single finger. Leaving the fact that he was a member of the Pirate King’s ship, Silvers Rayleigh could pose a great challenge to Luffy in Gear 5, in his prime.
1. Shanks
Shanks is currently the strongest Yonko and a former member of Roger Pirates. He is the one who inspired Monkey D. Luffy to be a pirate in One Piece. Shanks’ Conqueror’s Haki is the strongest. Even Marine Admiral Ryokugyu could not handle such immense pressure from a far distance. Whenever Shanks visited Whitebeard, most of Whitebeard’s crew would hide because Shanks’ presence was enough to knock them out.
Even if it was shown only a few times, it should come as no surprise that Luffy needs a lot more practice to reach Shanks’ level, if Shanks’ does not have any more hidden power. Moreover, he does not have one hand. His bounty is 4,048,900,000 berries.
