Anime shows have been one of the most liked forms of entertainment for decades, with millions of fans throughout the world. However, the past few years have seen a lot of downgrade in the overall quality of anime.
A popular Jujutsu Kaisen animator, Vincent Chansard, also known for his work in some of the other popular anime series like One Piece and Boruto has recently shown his thoughts on the future of the anime industry in an hour-long live stream.
Jujutsu Kaisen Animator Vincent Chansard’s Warning Reveals Only Two Things That Can Save the Anime Industry
According to Vincent Chansard, Japan is in the late stages of capitalism, which means the industry is ramping up production to make more and more money, however in the process, they’re driving down the skill level of one of the key characters, the animators.
Vincent Chansard said through KonohaTV,
“We know the solution! We completely know the solution! The two major solutions to the lack of workers are firstly, salary reevaluation to attract more workers, and second, more ways for new members to become more qualified. And what are the solutions adopted by the Japanese productions right now? None of them! The solutions exist but you have to apply them,”
With his statement, Chansard did not predict the sudden fall of the anime industry in Japan. Instead of that, he pointed out the picture of a more gradual and insidious decline.
Vincent Chansard further explains that,
“I’ll give you some possibilities. ‘Lack of workers?’ We know this. What happens next? Once they get their worker numbers to the maximum, they will reduce the work conditions of the workers. When you can’t get more workers anymore, you pay the ones you already have less and you get more profit. That’s what’s scary. Not the fact that it’ll go ‘boom,’ but the fact they will reduce work conditions even more, when they’re already pretty bad as you said.”
Chansard seems to see this as an even scarier prospect – a gradual erosion of an already troubled system, rather than a sudden implosion.
Why Jujutsu Kaisen Animator Vowed Never to Work Again With MAPPA
Vincent Chansard is one of the most popular and talented animators in the industry. Some of his most amazing works include the Luffy vs. Kaido fight in One Piece, as well as some episodes of Jujutsu Kaisen and Boruto.
Chansard has also gained hate for his criticism of the popular anime studio MAPPA, with whom he has vowed never to work again.
Previously he said,
“I don’t want to support a company that ideologically doesn’t care about working conditions.”
His statement has found support from another well-known animator in the industry, Nishii Terumi, known for being the chief animation director of Jujutsu Kaisen 0.
