Marshall D. Teech, popularly known as Blackbeard, is one of the most mysterious characters in One Piece. Since his debut, there have been several mysteries that have led the fans to give birth to new theories surrounding his nature. The captain of the Blackbeard Pirates has always succeeded in achieving everything that he ever wished, either by hook or crook.
Blackbeard is the only character in One Piece who has the abilities of two Devil Fruits – Yami Yami no Mi and Gura Gura no Mi. After knowing his jolly roger, most fans believed him to have consumed a Zoan-type Devil fruit, similar to that of a Cerberus, due to having three faces. But the latest fan theory debunks it and has come up with a more terrifying Devil Fruit.
Blackbeard’s Third Devil Fruit Could Be A Massive Game Changer
Most fan theories claim Blackbeard consumed the Zoan-type Devil Fruit belonging to the Cerberus Model, due to it having three faces, which matches his Jolly Roger. On the other hand, it would also complete his collection of one paramecia, one logia, and one zoan. But a new fan theory claims that he has consumed the Zoan-type Devil fruit first, and instead of the Cerberus, it is the Tako Tako no Mi, Model: Kraken or Model: Akkorokamui.
Since there is a Fish-type model, belonging to Kaido, an octopus/Kraken model could also exist. An octopus has three hearts and eight tentacles. Only the middle heart is used for pumping blood to the body, and the other two are used to pump blood to the gills. Most of its nervous system is located in its tentacles. An octopus gets easily tired since its middle heart stops while swimming. So, instead of swimming, it uses its tentacles to walk on the sea bed.
The three faces and eight bones on Blackbeard’s Jolly Roger could signify the three hearts and eight tentacles of an octopus. Since an octopus’ nervous system is spread throughout its body, it is more susceptible to physical injuries. The same applies to Blackbeard, who gets easily injured on minimal attacks. Octopuses can travel longer without much sleep. Oda took it one step further and introduced Marshall D. Teech as a character who has never slept in his life.
It is common in One Piece that a Devil Fruit can change the DNA of its users. Luffy is rubbery even when he is not using his abilities or Chopper maintains his human intelligence at every stage. In the same way, the Tako Tako no Mi may have altered Blackbeard’s DNA and created two new hearts aside from the main one. It allows him to consume three Devil Fruits, one for each heart.
More Similarities between an Octopus and Blackbeard
Since Marshall D. Teech’s debut, Eiichiro Oda has given the fans several hints about Blackbeard having a different type of body instead of a normal one. It may be due to his Zoan-type Devil Fruit. Just like an octopus, Blackbeard is pretty intelligent and takes steps after analyzing a situation. He joined the Whitebeard Pirates to find the Yami Yami no Mi, killed Thatch at the right moment, and fooled everyone after becoming a Warlord, only to recruit the worst Impel Down criminals as his commanders.
Even during battles, he uses his grey matter to analyze whether to stay and fight or to run. Due to him having octopus nature, he prefers unnecessary violence. An octopus is quite efficient at camouflage and Blackbeard camouflaged with the Whitebeard Pirates for 20 years. Pre-time skips, Blackbeard wore camouflaged trousers, and his post-time skip pants had patterns that resembled a change in octopus’ looks.
There is also a similarity between the abilities. A Kraken is said to have the ability to bring whirlpools in the seas, which is similar to the Gura Gura no Mi. The Gura Gura no Mi can cause earthquakes and tsunamis. Then, there is the ability to throw ink, similar to the Yami Yami no Mi, which engulfs everyone in darkness. The theory is pretty interesting and debunks the Cerberus theory. But at the end of the day, it is still a fan theory until official confirmation.
