Initially a member of the Whitebeard Pirates, he betrayed them and formed his pirate crew known as the Blackbeard Pirates. He recruited powerful people and rose to the rank of Emperor of the Sea.
But one thing that has often surprised the fan is his ability to steal Devil Fruits. Several fan theories deal with his abnormal powers. While some are interesting and others are not, there is a particular theory that stood its ground since day one. The theory claims that Marshall D. Blackbeard Ate The Dog Dog Fruit, Model: Cerberus
The most prominent theory for Blackbeard being able to yield two Devil Fruit is that he ate the Dog Dog Fruit, Model: Cerberus. According to Greek Mythology, Cerberus is a three-headed beast who guards the gate of the Underworld. The Devil Fruit might have given him the power to have three different souls and three different faces that allow him to consume more than one Devil Fruit.
Marshall D. Teach killed Thatch and consumed the Yami Yami no Mi. After Blackbeard’s death, he took his Devil Fruit powers. It completed his collection of one Zoan, one Paramecia, and one Logia-type Devil Fruit under his collection. Even his jolly roger is a three-headed skull that claims a stronghold on the Cerberus theory.
Even Roronoa Zoro and Monkey D. Luffy call him ‘they’ instead of ‘he’ since they could feel multiple people inside of his body. It was also mentioned in One Piece that Blackbeard never sleeps. The theory claims one of his personalities always stays awake while others are asleep. Blackbeard was always fascinated by the Devil Fruits, so he knows which the special ones are and how they can be fruitful to him.
Cerberus May Have a Deeper Meaning Than People Think
In Greek Mythology, Cerberus’ main task is to prevent the dead from leaving. In other words, he may have some sort of control over souls. The Cerberus theory also claims that Dog Dog Fruit, Model: Cerberus, could also provide Blackbeard with powers to manipulate souls and prevent the dead from leaving. When Whitebeard died, he may have captured his soul, which also had his Devil Fruit powers.
It proves why he killed every person to steal their Devil Fruit powers. The Cerberus theory has been one of the most significant theories in One Piece. Everything about Blackbeard can be related to the Cerberus theory. The third personality of the Cerberus is yet to consume a Devil Fruit. So, it will be interesting to see which Devil Fruit Marshall D. Teach chooses.
Recently, he was after Boa Hancock’s powers. He steals Devil Fruit powers, which are best suited for his crewmates. Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece has entered the Final Saga. The mangaka has confirmed that he will draw the biggest war in this arc. Hopefully, he will reveal everything about Blackbeard, but until that, the Cerberus theory remains a mystery.
