The vast world of One Piece offers its characters many ways to gain powers and become impenetrable. One such way of gaining strength and power is by eating a devil fruit, but it comes with many restrictions at the same time.
One such limitation of eating a Devil Fruit is that one cannot consume two or more different Devil Fruits, as the will of these fruits will then conflict with each other, resulting in dire consequences. However, Blackbeard stands as the only character in the series who has eaten two unique devil fruits and survived, but he, unfortunately, remains unmatched in terms of 1 aspect when compared to Luffy.
What we are essentially talking about is the fact that despite having the powers of two different devil fruits, being a Yonko, and even having the Will of D., Blackbeard was not given the ability to use the Conqueror’s Haki in the series.
Powers Of Blackbeard In One Piece Explained
Blackbeard’s real name is Marshall D. Teach, giving him the Will of D. He is also one of the four emperors, or Yonko, and finally also has the powers of Yami Yami no Mi and Gura Gura no Mi devil fruits. His fruits give him different abilities such as manipulating darkness as well as the ability to create and manipulate earthquakes and tremors.
A question that remains is why Blackbeard failed to receive the conqueror’s Haki in One Piece, despite being so powerful and having a strong will. While it may eventually surface in the upcoming chapters, right now there are no reasons stated by the author of the series, Eiichiro Oda, as to why Blackbeard does not have the particular Haki.
Blackbeard is considered to be one of the strongest pirates alive right now, which is proved by his status as one of the four emperors of the world. He could prove to be a tough battle against Luffy if they ever fight again, but Blackbeard would remain inferior in the fact that he does not have a Conqueror’s Haki, unlike Luffy.
What Is The Conqueror’s Haki In One Piece, And Why It Is A Big Deal?
Hakis are another way of gaining powers in the world of One Piece. There are currently 3 types of Haki that one can obtain, being the Armament Haki, Observation Haki, and the Conqueror Haki.
While characters can learn and attain the powers of Armament Haki and Observation Haki easily through training and hard work, Conqueror Haki is only obtainable at birth, with only one in a million people being born with this power. It allows the user to overpower those with a weaker will than them, making them fall to the ground powerless and helpless.
Shanks and Luffy both are shown to be proficient users of the Conqueror’s Haki in One Piece. Luffy was shown to use it for the first time in the Marineford Arc, in an effort to save Portgas D. Ace from execution. He later also used it in the Fishman Island Arc.
One Piece is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
