The world of One Piece created by Eiichiro Oda functions on an exceptional power-scaling system. The characters in the series are shown to either receive powers from a Devil Fruit or the awakening of a Haki.

However, our understanding of this system might be destined to change soon, as the recent manga chapters showcase some abilities that have never been seen before and certainly cannot be obtained from conventional methods. Fans have theorized how the Five Elders that lead the world government might be a foe that does not need to depend on the powers of a devil fruit at all.

Who Are The Five Elders In Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece?

As many might already know, the Five Elders, also known as the Gorosei are one of the most feared factions in the whole world. They are present at the top of the hierarchy in the World Government and are responsible for giving directions to the institution.

Much of the information about the Gorosei and their respective powers remains hidden for now. However, it appears that we will soon be getting to know more about them as their involvement is increased towards the end of the Egghead Island Arc in the manga.

We also know how the different members of The Five Elders look over different aspects of the world in terms of development and politics. These range from anything such as Science and Defense to Environment and Agriculture.

New Theory Speculates The Gorosei Derives Powers From A Mysterious Source

As stated before, not much is revealed about the powers of the Five Elders responsible for calling the shots in the World Government. But their recent involvement, especially of Jaygarcia Saturn, in the Egghead Island Arc gives us an insight into what they might be capable of.

Saturn, called to be the Warhead of Science and Defense, was shown to transform into a huge Half Spider and Half Ox-like creature with terrifying abilities. He used what seemed to be a summoning circle, something which has never been seen before in the series, and further used his abilities to terrorize the island.

What’s more intriguing is how Saturn was shown to be communicating with the other elders telepathically, which allowed him to convey information about the battleground regularly to others. His unusual method of transformation into a huge creature as well as his passive ability of telepathy has got many readers wondering if the Gorosei depend on the powers of Devil Fruits at all.

The Five Elders are rumored to further appear in the upcoming One Piece manga chapter, as teased in the latest chapter 1109. Jaygarcia Saturn is shown to prepare for summons much like his very own. Furthermore, the next panel shows 4 similar black lightning bolts that were seen before with Saturn’s summon and are most likely the remaining elders joining the battlefield.

One Piece manga is available to read on Viz.
