The Wano Arc was one of the longest One Piece arcs ever, and Eiichiro Oda expanded the world of One Piece even more in the arc. One of the regions of Wano, however, was a bit too mysterious. Kuri, a deserted region of Wano, could be connected to the Gorosei and their appearance in the series.
Given that Eiichiro Oda is a master in creating Easter eggs, it is possible that Kuri’s appearance in One Piece was to hint at the land, which will later become the playfield for a lesson in history.

Wano was once called the Country of Gold before it slowly lost its fortune. But how did such a prosperous country lose its fortune? Was it because the country itself began walking on the path of ruin? Or maybe an essential instrument was taken away from it.
According to the One Piece Kuri theory, the declining fate of Wano is actually entangled with Kuri, the abandoned region of Wano, where the first act of the Wano arc took place. Most of Kuri is a wasteland full of nothing but lawlessness. But if it had no consequences, then Eiichiro Oda would not have introduced the region at all.
There must be hidden secrets behind why Kuri is now nothing but ruin, and they will be uncovered by Yamato soon. The theory suggests that Kuri could have been the financial capital of Wano, helping the country run its finances. The absence of Kuri’s power might have led Wano to ruin.
Now, another person in One Piece who is mostly associated with finances is one of the Gorosei working under Imu.
The Connection of the Five Elders with Wano

Ethanbaron V. Nusjuro, one of the Gorosei, is called the Warrior God of Finance. It is possible that Nusjuro hails from Kuri. After he was recruited into the Gorosei, his past was probably uprooted from Kuri. If Nusjuro’s bloodline was removed from the area, then there is a possibility that Kuri was deprived of its population that handled the finances.
Unlike the other Gorosei, Nusjuro cared about the world’s balance. He exercised meticulousness and also seemed familiar with Wano, Zunesha, and Zou. This provides another hint towards his connection with Wano.

Additionally, the sword carried by Nusjuro is a Kitetsu. Kitsu swords hail from a specific school of wordsmiths in Wano. Zoro carries a Kitetsu sword, which was especially hard to train. This could be another nod towards Nusjuro’s Wano heritage.
