The death of Kozuki Oden in the world of One Piece remains one of the most tragic deaths in the whole series. He was the leader of a legendary samurai group, and more of his character and his unfortunate end was revealed in the recent Wano Arc run of One Piece.

His character was also shown to be pretty close to Whitebeard, one of the former emperors of the sea. They were depicted to be as close as real brothers, which begs the question of why he chose not to avenge Oden’s death, and the answer to this lies in plain sight.

Kozuki Oden was initially a part of the Whitebeard Pirates, and later moved on to Roger, but still maintained a closer relationship with Whitebeard. It is questioned why he did not head to Wano Country for revenge, despite being equipped with the appropriate resources to take on Kaido.

Why Whitebeard Chose Not To Fight Kaido Over Oden’s Death

As mentioned before, he had enough manpower and strength to take on someone as monstrous as Kaido to begin with. He was regarded to be as powerful as Gol D. Roger, the King of Pirates, and could have easily fought Kaido.

However, Whitebeard and his crew only had 2 singular rules to follow and adhere to. These rules were not to take someone else’s life and not to steal a treasure that belonged to somebody else. Bearing in mind how a possible clash against Kaido at Wano would not come without many casualties, he had to let go of Oden’s revenge.

The legendary samurai faced his end after being executed for his crimes against the Shogunate. However, vengeance would soon come to knock at Wano’s door as Luffy came around to finally end the terror of Kaido and liberate the people of the island.

Why Edward Newgate Remains As One Of The Best Characters In One Piece?

Edward Newgate, or Whitebeard was a man of fundamentalism and liked to stick to rules he had made for his life and his crew. He possessed the power of a devil fruit capable of causing earthquakes and terrors, even rumored to possess the power of shattering the whole world.

In his early days, he was a member of the Rocks Pirates along with Kaido and Big Mom before they started their crews and became emperors of the sea. His character played a pivotal role during the Marineford Arc, where he gave it his all to save Portgas D. Ace from execution, but unfortunately met his end after being backstabbed by his own crew member.

One Piece is available to watch on Crunchyroll.
