Eiichiro Oda’s masterpiece, One Piece, has been a success for almost 30 years and it is still going strong. While a lot can be pointed towards its stardom, like intriguing characters, brilliant storyline, epic fights and more, the biggest one probably will be its ability to make the story of every character count.
Even the smallest characters in One Piece have a habit of creating a huge impact on the story, thus making fans fall in love with the character. This ability was enhanced by Netflix’s One Piece live-action. The series capitalized on Eiichiro Oda’s ability to focus on every character and used it in the adaptation to make it a success too.
However, this element of the series might become a problem for the second season of One Piece live-action. This is because it will increase the pain fans will feel after meeting the most anticipated character of One Piece live-action’s second season: Ace, who suffers a cruel death in the future.
One Piece Live-Action Season 2 Will Focus on Ace
One Piece season 2 will have many characters that are sure to steal the show, but the one most people are looking forward to is Luffy’s brother Portgas D. Ace, who also happens to be the commander of Whitebeard Pirates’ second division. He might not have a major role in the Alabasta saga, but he is a very important character in the future arcs of the story.
Although Ace has not yet been cast in One Piece season 2, he will undoubtedly feature in the future season, given his involvement in the Alabasta arc’s early beginnings is critical to the narrative. His involvement in the Alabasta saga will also reveal his hunt for the main antagonist of the entire series, Marshall D. Teach (Blackbeard).
While Ace did not have a lot of screen time in the Alabasta arc shown in One Piece anime and manga, his presence and personality allowed him to leave an impression on the storyline. Furthermore, viewers will be surprised to learn that Luffy and Ace are brothers, and this will also add a new dimension to Luffy’s persona.
Ace’s Death Will Be More Hurtful in One Piece Live-Action
One Piece on Netflix has already shown that it is possible to give minor characters a lot more nuance and relatability, but Ace’s passing will be negatively impacted by the choice to go in that direction. It will be much more tragic to watch Ace’s demise at the hands of Admiral Akainu if One Piece develops Ace’s character beyond what the manga and anime did.
In season one, One Piece demonstrated the ability to make audiences care about less prominent characters who would have otherwise been left behind, and a character like Ace is bound to receive a greater amount of focus development and growth in the series, potentially leading fans to fall in love with him more than the Ace from the anime and manga.
Thus it is entirely possible that Eiichiro Oda’s decision to kill the character in the future might affect the future of the live-action series as it will make Ace’s death more realistic and heartbreaking than it already was in One Piece anime and manga.
