One Piece is currently in its final saga, and the grand adventure of Luffy and Straw Hats is propelling towards its end. Currently, the story is in the Egghead Island arc, also known as Future Island, and Oda sensei is about to wrap up the very first arc of the final saga of One Piece.
Since his win over Kaido, Luffy has reached a new level of power as he has obtained the power of Sun God Nika. He has also achieved the status of Yonko and is one of the strongest characters in the series. However, despite how potent Gear 5 is, there is a theory revolving around One Piece fans that Luffy would see his first defeat in Gear 5 form in the Egghead arc.
Luffy might lose his first-ever battle in Gear 5 form in One Piece
The journey that began 27 years ago with a child wanting to become the Pirate King is hovering near its inevitable end. Presently, in the final saga, One Piece is expected to wrap up the adventure of Luffy and his crew within a few years.
The captain of the Straw Hats is one of the most well-known names in the One Piece world, and ever since he triumphed over Kaido, he has become a Yonko. To overcome Kaido, he unlocked Gear 5, which is said to resemble the “Warrior of Liberation”—Sun God Nika, which brings the people smiles, joy, and freedom.
According to the World Government, the Sun God Nika fruit grants the user ridiculous powers and gives them rubber-like properties and cartoon physics. Luffy has himself mentioned that his current form is his peak.
All the adversaries Luffy has faced up until now would easily get folded by him if a rematch takes place in the future; however, his Gear 5 form doesn’t mean his sure victory in every battle. A new theory is gaining prominence among One Piece fans.
The theory states that Luffy will suffer his first-ever defeat in Gear 5 form due to him fighting two powerful enemies, Kizaru and Saturn, both at once, which will deplete his stamina and result in his defeat.
How would Luffy be defeated in One Piece?
It seems incomprehensible for Luffy to be defeated by the likes of Saturn and Kizaru since he managed to triumph over a Yonko, but Luffy may not come out of this fight as a winner.
The latest theory acknowledged by One Piece fans states that despite being a compelling character in his Gear 5 form, Luffy would still be defeated in his current fight against Kizaru and Saturn.
According to the theory, Gear 5 depletes a lot of energy and Haki, and despite Luffy having higher reserves than standard characters, he will eventually run out of gas. The major drawback for Luffy in this fight is that he is fighting two powerful opponents at once.
If the fight had been 1v1, there is no doubt about Luffy’s victory, but Saturn and Kizaru are a deadly combo. Another reason why this theory holds merit is due to Luffy’s Vivre Card.
As you might know, Luffy had his Vivre Card made by Sabo and distributed among the Straw Hat Grand Fleet towards the end of the Dressrosa arc. If Luffy gets defeated and is taken into custody by the World Government, the Grand Fleet of Straw Hats would be dispatched to get their captain back.
Since their formation, the Grand Fleet has yet to be in action; Luffy’s capture might set the stage for the crew to come together and launch an all-out attack against the World Government.
