In the world of One Piece, many characters have been given specific titles that depict their might and how strong they are. One such character is Kaido, who is known in the One Piece world as “The Strongest Creature” to ever live. He earned this title by defeating some of the strongest characters and climbing the ladder to become an Emperor of the Sea.

Even the main character of the series, Monkey D. Luffy, was unable to defeat him for a long time, which in itself speaks for the strength the Yonko possessed. He ruled over the kingdom of Wano for a very long time and not even the World Government dared to capture him or take a fight with the chief of the Beast Pirates.

However, there was one character who was said to be much stronger than Kaido. He was the one who in a way gave a hand in helping Kaido start his journey as a pirate. This character is theorized to be the grandfather of Luffy, and the father of Monkey D. Dragon. His name is Rocks D. Xebec and he is one of the strongest characters in the series, who hasn’t even made an appearance yet.

Theory States Rocks D. Xebec is Luffy’s True Grandfather

According to one belief, Monkey D. Garp has never explicitly acknowledged that Dragon is his son. Instead of calling Luffy the son of his son, he referred to him as the child of his child. As It is not uncommon for a man to adopt a woman’s family name in Japanese culture, provided that the lady comes from a higher social class, it is highly likely that Dragon married Garp’s daughter and took her name.

Additionally, there is a considerable facial resemblance between Dragon and Xebec. There’s also the fact that both are regarded as the most horrible criminals of their generation. Rocks’ last name is most likely derived from the real-life pirate Roche Braziliano, which translates to “Rock the Brazilian” in English.

This is consistent with the revelation made by Eiichiro Oda that Luffy would have been Brazilian in the actual world. Therefore it is a possibility that Dragon is actually the son of Rocks D. Xebec and Luffy’s paternal grandfather is Xebec.

Kaido Was Afraid of Rocks D. Xebec

If the theory is true, and Rocks D. Xebec is truly Luffy’s grandfather then it can be perceived that Kaido was afraid of Luffy’s grandfather as not only he was one of the crewmates in Rocks Pirates, but he actually held Xebec in high regard every time he mentioned his name or talked about his old crew.

Other characters in the series believe that Xebec is the Pirate King’s first and most dangerous opponent. Xebec was mentioned by Kaido, who was dubbed the “Strongest Creature” in the world at the time, along with Kozuki Oden, Shanks, Newgate, and Roger, as individuals deserving of being pitted against him in combat.

This was done to further draw attention to Xebec’s might as well as its severity. This, along with the fact that he had three of the four previous Yonkos on his crew, attests to his capacity for power and strength both as the series’ captain and as a character.
