Although their forms have been shown before in the series, it only involved their silhouettes but now, their real appearances have been revealed to the One Piece fans. They possess powers that have never been seen before and many people believe that they have the most terrifying Mythical Zoan Devil Fruits.

There is a theory that suggests that The Five Elders’ real powers are even more terrifying than Mythical Zoan Fruits and the Devil Fruits that they and Imu have consumed are corrupted, which gives them devilish powers which is a big problem for Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates. The theories revolve around the main theme of One Piece: dream.

One Piece Theory Suggests Imu and The Gorosei Are Using Corrupted Devil Fruits

The theory posted by @3SkullJoe states that the Devil Fruits that Gorosei and Imu are using are naturally corrupted. During the Egghead arc, Dr. Vegapunk said that Devil Fruits are embodiments of people’s wishes and fantasies, with each symbolizing a distinct path of evolution for whatever consumes it.

The premise is that if wonderful dreams may come true, then nightmares can too. According to the hypothesis, this could also be the reason for their nickname, Devil Fruits. As Luffy is the representation of freedom, liberation, and good energy, his counterparts Imu and The Gorosei’s Devil Fruits are the representation of nightmares, sadness, and fear, thus giving them a devilish nature.

If the theory is correct and the Five Elders and Imu truly possess such Devil Fruits, it will confirm the aspect that their Devil Fruits are corrupted. Another example of a corrupted Devil Fruit is Blackbeard’s Yami Yami No Mi which also gets energized from the darkness.

The Importance of Dreams For The Manifestation of Devil Fruits

In One Piece, dreams are a prominent topic. Almost every character in the series has a dream or desire that they want to fulfill and make something out of it. The importance of dreams is so much in One Piece that even the Devil Fruits are manifested according to the dreams and desires of the characters.

As the series moves forward, the importance of the individual dreams of the Straw Hat Pirates, especially Luffy is growing more and more, and it might not take him much time to achieve his dream which is still a big mystery for the One Piece fans. Thus, Luffy’s dreams of freedom and liberation might need an opposite force to stop him.

It would make perfect sense for the final foe Luffy faces in the World Government to be the complete opposite, given that Devil Fruit is all about imagination, independence, and making dreams come true. Thus, Imu and Gorosei’s corrupted Devil Fruits are the best rivals for Luffy’s Nika fruit.
