The One Piece world shown in the series is entirely different from the real world. The World Government controls the vast bulk of the world, which is nominally headed by the Five Elders but secretly ruled by Imu. The Blue Sea dominates the world’s surface, a body of seawater separated into four quadrants: the East Blue, the West Blue, the North Blue, and the South Blue.

A narrow strip of land known as the Red Line circles the planet and serves as its single continent. The Red Line divides the two oceans into four different waters. One ocean creates the two seas, East Blue and South Blue, while the other creates the North Blue and West Blue. The rest of the earth is a huge archipelago made up entirely of islands.

However, there is a theory on the internet that states that the One Piece world was not always like this. It had other continents which were destroyed indicating a post-apocalyptic world by the World Government using the Ancient Weapons. The theory is supported by the events that took place in One Piece chapter 1089.

Theory Proves that One Piece is a Post-apocalyptic World

According to a theory posted by CBR, the Lulusia Kingdom was destroyed without a trace by Imu following the Raid on Onigashima and then erased from history, causing global floods. Earthquakes and rising water levels were reported around the world six days after the island was reduced to a massive hole in the ocean. While no one knows why this happened, many assume it has something to do with Lulusia’s ultimate fate.

Many believe that the island was destroyed by the Ancient Weapon, Uranus and that if it was done once, the Ancient Kingdom may have done it again in the past. Naturally, such heavy use would have led sea levels to increase to the point that entire continents’ worth of land were submerged. Alternatively, the World Government may be in charge of burying the earth in water.

To cover up their mistake, the 20 founding kingdoms may have taken possession of the Ancient Weapon and used it to destroy regions of the world connected to the Ancient Kingdom. They could have also deleted information concerning the period known as the Void Century, which preceded the creation of the World Government, thus pointing out the fact that the One Piece world is a result of a flood apocalypse.

The World Government Destroyed the Planet With Ancient Weapons

As there is no other explanation for how Imu could have destroyed an entire island in a few moments, the most accurate explanation would be the use of the Ancient Weapons. If the Ancient Weapons and rising sea levels are linked, this could reveal a lot about how the One Piece universe was constructed.

The Ancient Weapon would require an ancient power source, such as Dr. Vegapunk’s Mother Flame. The Mother Flame can be weaponized or employed in a weapon capable of annihilating entire islands in an instant by raining lasers down on its target. After the annihilation, there is no sign of the target left.

Thus, it might be argued that when the World Government acquired power, they destroyed practically every nation on earth to keep control, eventually constructing the Red Line and eliminating other continents. If this theory is true, Luffy might have to fight the World Government not only to save his freedom but to save the entire world.
