Guy Ritchie’s spin-off television series to his 2019 film The Gentlemen was launched on Netflix earlier this month, and even though all eyes have been on the lead actor, Theo James, there’s a guest star who has had quite a deep connection with video games in the now-distant past.

Peter Serafinowicz stars as Tommy Dixon, who is the brother of Pearce Quigley’s John “The Gospel” Dixon, the leader of the Scouse crime family, which may have been an interesting role to play, but not everyone knows about his much more intriguing collaboration with FromSoftware nearly a decade ago.

In fact, Serafinowicz actually ended up voicing a character in a major Souls-like title after outing himself as a massive fan of the genre.

For those wondering which character Peter Serafinowicz voiced in the Souls-like genre, it was Mild Mannered Pate in Dark Souls 2, but even before the highly anticipated sequel came out, The Gentlemen guest star was already deeply in love with the first installment in the series. Serafinowicz revealed a decade ago, in 2014, that he absolutely adored the original Dark Souls and confessed that the FromSoftware title kept him quite busy for more than 1800 hours.

The British actor started to express his love for the 2011 video game on his X (or Twitter, as it was known back then) account, leading him to ask Bandai Namco UK for the title’s poster, which he did receive and put up on his office’s wall.

But Peter Serafinowicz’s Dark Souls journey did not just end there, as life presented him with a chance to turn his Souls-like obsession into a professional opportunity. When FromSoftware announced the sequel to its 2011 title, the studio reached out to the Shaun of the Dead star and asked him if he could lend his voice to one of the characters in the game.

It goes without saying that the comedian was extremely ecstatic about the situation, resulting in him voicing the beloved humble traveler and treasure hunter Pate in Dark Souls 2.

At the time, I rung every last drip of excitement and enjoyment out of the first game, so I was very excited to get my teeth into a new one,” said Serafinowicz, who stated that it was definitely a lot of “fun being involved with” the sequel.

Naturally, it was “such an honor forThe Gentlemen star, as it felt like a dream come true that he could not “quite believe.”

It is definitely an inspiring story, and especially when one considers the name of the character he plays, Pate, which the actor admits “sounds like a sort of Dark Souls version of Pete,” it was just meant to be.
