Now that almost every popular celebrity in Hollywood seems to be migrating toward superhero franchises, mostly the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DC Universe, many might expect Adam Sandler to follow suit. This is especially true as he is unarguably one of the most popular and influential figures in the entertainment industry.

But even if he does get cast into either one of the franchises, which character could he best embody? Well, while there may not be many roles that would suit him (even though Sandler could quite perfectly embody any character), there is one supervillain from the DCU who is equal parts maniacal as well as ridiculous enough for Sandler: Mister Mxyzptlk.

Adam Sandler is the Perfect Match for this DC Supervillain

Considering how he is quite the comedic leading actor primarily in his movies, Adam Sandler holds everything required to perfectly embody a character as perfectly humorous, maniacal, and ridiculous as his onscreen personality. And for that, the perfect match is none other than the DC supervillain, Mister Mxyzptlk.

First appearing in the Superman daily comic strip, the villain, who is also referred to as simply ‘Mxy’, wreaked havoc in Superman’s life and world. To explain him in a few words would call for terms like impish and mischievous, judging how he is renowned in the comics for his unpredictable antics and wacky behavior.

Mxy is actually a Fifth Dimensional Imp created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, and his personality in the comics depicts him as a trickster. He exercises the ability to warp reality and possesses the formidable power of bending the laws of physics as per his will. Because of these qualities, he is one of Clark Kent’s most problematic enemies.

What’s more interesting about Mister Mxyzptlk is that the only way to stop him is by tricking him into spelling his own name backward. When he does this, Mxy is sent back to his hometown, i.e. the Fifth Dimension, and has to stay there for at least 90 days. However, these limitations were modified going further in the comics, so some of these tend to differ.

Besides these modifiable features, Mxy remains the same throughout the DC Comics Universe, i.e. maniacal and ridiculous. Thus, because of all of his unpredictably playful traits, Sandler could prove to be not only the ideal choice to portray him in a live-action project but may have added a unique flair to the supervillain.

Moreover, as has been experienced multiple times through his voiceover of characters like Count Dracula from the Hotel Transylvania saga as well as his brilliantly comedic live-action performances in films like Grown Ups, Sandler holds an impressively expressive face and voice range. This is why he could have made the character stand out in the franchise.

And if all of this is still not enough to convince people that Sandler should join superhero franchises like the DC Universe, there’s further evidence as well. The Happy Gilmore actor himself admitted he is “very into” the superhero stuff!

During an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Josh Horowitz pointed out how Sandler had never had to do a franchise throughout his entire career, but became successful by creating his own remarkable lane.

Josh Horowitz then asked Sandler if he could imagine himself in the superhero series such as, Harry Potter, or Star Wars. To this, the You Don’t Mess with the Zohan star said:

“I’ve never thought about it, maybe because no one has ever asked me. I don’t know. I’m very into, I love that stuff. I see that stuff and go wow, these amazing movies, but no it hasn’t happened and probably won’t happen.”

That being said, it is nothing short of a clear message from Adam Sandler that if he is offered a role in a superhero franchise, he wouldn’t hesitate to join in. Thus, if DC Studios are indeed thinking about bringing Mister Mxyzptlk to life, then Sandler should be their topmost choice!
