The Oscar nominations for the year 2024 have been one of the most anticipated parts of the awards season. Regardless of what personal beliefs celebrities hold, a fact that is undeniable is that the Academy Awards hold a lot of sway in Hollywood. Having a reputation for making careers, simply being a part of a film that receives a nomination has helped launch actors into stardom. This year’s nominees have been heavily debated, with many names that were expected to be on this list, and many that were wanted in certain categories but are not.
Barbie was expected to have dominated the list this year, however, its cast is absent from some of the major categories. Certain projects have taken spectators by surprise, with the perfect example being the inclusion of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. However, many would argue that the film still did not get the recognition it deserved.

Was Barbie Unfairly Treated In 2024 Oscar Nominations?
The year 2023 brought about a huge number of beautifully made projects. Be it in terms of their stories, or their visuals, the past year of cinema made it very difficult for critics to decide what was the best film of the year, in all aspects that help give this title. One film that was expected to make an appearance in the Oscar nominations of this year was Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. Not only did the film start a huge conversation around many subjects that matter in the current times, but it also managed to break more than a few records while it was at it.
This is why it is extremely surprising that the one category that was expected to be dominated by this film, was one that it was not nominated in. One of the first things that the cast of Barbie talked about, long before its release, was the beauty of its screenplay. Having been years in the making with many hands contributing to its perfection, it is extremely shocking that the movie was not nominated in the category of Best Original Screenplay.
On top of this, Margot Robbie, who played the central character, does not feature in the Best Actress category. On the other hand, Ryan Gosling was nominated for Best Supporting Actor, and Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach received a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse Snubbed In 2024 Oscar Nominations
Another movie that left its audience in complete awe of its beauty was Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. This, however, is no surprise considering not only does this franchise have a reputation for being visually magnificent, but also has a well-written story with excellent characters. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was only nominated in the category of Animated Feature Film, which attracted a lot of viewers, who thought this was an unjust treatment of a film that can easily be called a masterpiece and perfect in so many different ways.
It seems that history has repeated itself, as much like the 2018 film, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has only been nominated for Animated Feature Film. This snub can be categorized as outrageous by many considering the movie has an excellent soundtrack, fantastic voice-acting, perfectly told storytelling, and characters who are magnificently written. Not to mention its visually stunning effects and animation.
